Nest Hub Fails to Play Playlists

Hey there!

I have a few pairs of Google Nest Hub 2nd Generation devices scattered throughout my home, and for the past month, they’ve been refusing to play my playlists. Whether it’s my personal YouTube Music playlists or specific public community playlists, nothing seems to work. I’ve tried using direct voice commands and setting up routines, but they just keep playing random playlists instead.

I first noticed something was off when the Nest Hub started saying, “Playing [playlist name] on YouTube Music,” especially when I’d ask it through a routine. Before, it would just jump right into playing the music without any announcements. The only playlist that plays correctly is an old one I created ages ago, but even that’s weird—despite any modifications I’ve made, it keeps playing songs from the original version like it’s stuck in its memory.

This whole situation is incredibly frustrating, especially since I work remotely and rely on these devices to keep the music going for my kids while they learn, play, and get ready for bed.

Steps I’ve Tried to Resolve the Issue:

  • Restarting the devices
  • Linking and unlinking YouTube Music in Google Home
  • Creating playlists with really unique names
  • Adjusting playlist privacy settings (private or public)
  • Using links instead of playlist names in routine commands
  • Performing a factory reset on the Google Nest devices

If anyone has tips or solutions, I’d love to hear them! Thanks!

Hi @arsakala

Thank you for your timely post and the comprehensive information you've provided. I've reviewed the input and understand that you're encountering issues listening to music on YouTube and setting up routines on your Google Nest Hub 2nd generation. I'm here to help you troubleshoot and find a solution together.

To assist you further, please attempt the following questions:

  • Were there any recent changes to your environment, such as a change in Wi-Fi network or relocation of the device?
  • When did this behavior first begin?
  • Have you experienced any power outages in your area?
  • Have you tried connecting the Google Nest Hub 2nd generation to a different power source?
  • May I know the model of your smartphone?
  • Are both your Google Home app and smartphone operating system up-to-date?
  • Did you notice another issue when you try to use the voice commands or just when you play music?
  • Is this a personal or household routine?
  • Do you see an entry in the Home app feed for the routine running?
  • Is the Activate Routine toggle enabled?
  • Did you receive an error message notification or verbal response from the assistant-enabled device on which the action failed?
  • Is your personal result on?

In the meantime, you can follow these articles:

Thank you for your attention. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
