Nest Hub - Safe in direct sunlight?

RowleyBirkinQC

Hi all,

I've replaced all of my speakers through out the house with Nest Hubs, one of them is in direct sunlight partially during the day, unfortunately the spot it is in is pretty much the only desirable place to have it in the room.

How bad is this for the device? Is it pretty much a no go?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It must be okay I guess, important is the produced heat under sunlight. Normally the Hub is white so getting hot shouldn't be a problem.

Also there is the light sensor which will detect high sunlight and will lower the display power.

Thanks for the feedback, hopefully should be ok, I'll keep an eye on it.

Hi All,

First, thank you FamilySchmidt for answering this question!

Hello RowleyBirkinQC, just checking in. Do you have any other questions or concerns? Please let us know, we're here to help!

Thanks frances.

Be interested to hear any other feedback people have.

It does seem to get reasonably hot and I've seen some odd behaviour in the Hub that's in the sunlight, I've seen the screen go almost completely white and becomes unresponsive for a short period of time.

I assumed this was the light sensor but it being unresponsive at times possibly due to this throws me off a little.

Hi RowleyBirkinQC,

Thanks for reaching out! I had my Google Nest Hub in a direct sunlight location before as well, but moved it to the other side of my room away from a window because I did not like my device being very bright constantly, and was worried about the device getting warm.

With your device getting hot as well, I would recommend moving your device into a shadier location. You definitely don't want to experience any display issues.

Just on my personal preference of not wanting my display constantly on, I also have changed my Google Nest Hub's settings for the following:

  • Low Light Activation
  • During Low Light
  • Minimum Brightness

You can also adjust the Ambient EQ for the Auto-brightness offset, from dimmer to brighter. It is a sliding scale, and you can adjust to your needs.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!
