Nest Hub always responds when question asked to phone

I recently set up a Nest Hub in my kitchen on the first floor and I have a Pixel 6 Pro. Both are signed in to the same Google account, and now anytime I'm at home and I ask Google Assistant something Nest Hub always answers. Even when I'm on a different floor and far away from the Hub where I can't make out what it's saying. This is driving me absolutely nuts! Can someone please tell me how to make this stop? Appreciate any help!

Hi there,

The assistant will answer on a Google home or Google Nest speaker or display when it's within hearing range. The only way to override this is by manually activating the assistant on your phone.
