Nest Hub gen2, Display language change.

lolplol
Community Member

I have similar problem described here: Answered: Change display language Nest Hub Max - Google Nest Community

My phone, assistant, home app language is set to English (USA),  but my Nest Hub 2nd gen is in German.

Tried casting youtube, spotify, etc. this display (described as fix in mentioned post) - still no luck.

reinstalled Home app, reset Nest Hub as well. After resetting it's in english for brief moment, but then switches back to german.

Hi lolplol,

I’m sorry to hear that even after following the steps that’s working from the link you provided, the issue remains. Would you mind me asking a few more questions to isolate further? What is your location now? When and where did you buy your Nest Hub 2nd Gen? Which language do you prefer?

How about we try to change your device Home address:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top, make sure your home name is listed. If needed, tap the name to change the selected home.
  3. Tap Settings > Home information > Home address.
  4. Tap Edit > Enter your address > Next.
  5. Drag the map so the pin is on your home, then tap Done.

Note: When you change the home address, it only affects the devices in the home you selected. You can edit or delete this address anytime.

I would also suggest you set the language on Google Maps. Open the Google Maps on your computer or phone, select the menu bar usually found on the upper left corner and select language. Change it.

For more detailed information, click this guide: Change your home and work locations and Change the language of Google Assistant.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

i'v already had my address (in US) added already.  all stuff on phone (e.g. phone region is US) and google is set to use English.

fixed this issue by changing Assistant language in home app,  from English (US) to English(UK) and back.  but now i have another problem lol - sleep tracking and motion sensing is not working, perhaps will create separate topic here

Overall terrible UX.

Hi RicardoVenancio,

Appreciate the update! I'm glad to hear you're all good. I want to make sure everything's covered on your end; do you have the Nest Sensor? Can you tell me what's wrong with it so we can further assist?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,
Lovely

When i try to stop the music with gestures, it doesn’t do it

Hello RicardoVenancio,

Make sure that the Gestures feature is enabled. Here's how: open the Google Home app > Tap on the Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) icon > Choose Settings at the top right > Gestures > If Quick Gestures is on, toggle it off, then on again.

Don't forget to turn on the Motion Sense on the display by doing these steps: from the bottom of your display's screen, swipe up > Choose Settings > Enable Motion Sense. Check this support website to learn more information.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,
Lovely

Exact problem here. nd google feedback none. This is amazingly treating badly the clients. Never thought google could have these kind of problems

I actually managed to fix this issue by changing Assistant language in Home app (i'm using iphone, dunno if that matters),  from English (US) to English(UK) and back.  But now i have another problem lol - sleep tracking and motion sensing is not working, perhaps will create separate topic here. sleep tracking was only reason why i bought it in first place.

Thank you. Gonna try that. I gess my sensor not working also, because i have it in the kitchen, but the gestures for stopping the music don’t work.

Same here and i'm on a Iphone to. Setup the Nest Hub for my sons room and did it with his Android device. Definitely sure it's an Iphone Issue because my sons Nest hub stays on Dutch language and mine switched already 2 times from Dutch to German.

May I ask you if you use Icloud and the privacy settings to hide you're Iphones real location by randomized MAC adresses? I use this function so maybe we get it pinpointed to where it goes wrong.

Maybe an apple something. I dont think i use the icloud randomize thing.
Now it seems working ok. I had an ipad tha for some reason was set in germany as the location region, but even fixed to portugal it kept doing it.
In the meantime i bought the nest wifi, and had to reinstall all things from  scratch and even had to reset the provider modem, because first i wanted do shut down that modem wifi, to not have like 4 wifi networks, and had the brilliant idea of puting it in bridge mode.

now it seems to be hangin on for a week, and the swipe up appeared yesterday.

What kind of sucks is that are the users that share some fixes, and official support is lacking.

It's always the input from the users who help the developers in the right directions.

I have a feeling that's what causing this issue has to do with the Icloud private relay in some kind of way.

The stupid thing also is that when I use the Google Home app to add the Nest Hub on my Iphone 14 PM Ios 16.3.1 it sees my neighbors wifi names but my own 5Ghz wifi network and my 2.4Ghz IoT network it doesn't see. I have to do the initial setup on an Android device because on the Android with the Google Home app it shows my own wifi networks 🤷🏻‍♂️.

I removed the Google Home App from my Iphone. I have still my Samsung Note 20 phone and set my Nest Hub up again on this device and I will work only with this device now. Will see what happens next and I will report back.

Sorry for that. In my iPhone 13 I don't have any problems of sorts. Sometimes have to refresh the app, but nothing unusual.

Hi muddi,

I'm on the latest firmware. Problem with the settings language that went to German happened again. It happened every time aprox after 24 hours after setting up the hub. Last Sunday when it happened again I did another reset. I uninstalled Google Home app from my works android phone. Did the setup on my old Samsung Notwe 20 and language is still in Dutch after 6 days. Don't know if the cause was the 2 phones with the same Google accounts. My work's phone has 2 Google accounts on it. My work's Google account and my own.

I first tied again to set it up on my Iphone last Sunday but no luck there. The Nest hub sees my neighbors wifi networks and none of my own networks. Uninstalled the Google Home app also from my Iphone again.

I'm Using 2 seperate mesh systems. Deco M4 for my IoT on 10.33.33.0 (2.4 GHz) and Deco X90 for my private network on 10.22.22.0 (5 GHz). Still don't know what's causing this issue 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don’ t know if helps, but tey to check if you have some apple device with the region in germany. For some reason i had one, even ig it was in portuguese. The reset the hub. It seems to have worked for me. At least till now

I also reseted by mistake the provider router/modem. Maybe that helped too lol

I noticed because searching in the safari bar it went by default to google.de even if it was in portuguese. This, on an ipad

Hi Ricardo,

My Iphone is not in Germany qith IP address or nothing. The third time it changed to German again the Home app wasn't even on my Iphone installed. Only the 2 Android devices.

Don't know why the language has to come from the cloud. Maybe they give the users in the next firmware under settings of the hub itself a language option that you can force the language you want.

To bad internet is full of those language problems since they released the gen2 and there is no direct solution for it. Some people getting it fixed and some have accepted it because it switched for them to English and they can read English.  Have bought 4 of the gen2 hubs. Wanted to give one as a present to my parents but I can't have it that they keep calling me on a weekly base that the language has changed etc 😂

Hey but win, win. I used the fourth as a casting device for Home Assistant to control my home domotica 🥳

LOL. Yes, i don’t understand why we can’t define the language, or force to. It’s weird. My situation is. Assistant in the phone in Portuguese from Portugal. Assistant in the nest mini portuguese from brasil. Nest hub, english… so weird lol

Hey Dutchy,

Thanks for the added information. To confirm, do the phones have different languages? Are you able to set up your Nest Hubs now using your network? Also, have you had the chance to fill out the form?

@RicardoVenancio: I appreciate your help here!

Hey RicardoVenancio,

Thanks for the update. Please check the firmware version of your device. Follow the steps below to know-how:

  1.  Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings > About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."
    • For Nest Hub (1st gen) and Nest Hub Max: If “Fuchsia Version” is also listed, this means your device runs in Fuchsia.

Also, please fill out this form with all the needed information. I’ll keep an eye out for your response specifically, so please let me know once you’ve filled it out.

Cheers,

Muddi

Well, now the situation changed a bit.

First I discovered that I had an Ipad where the region selected for some reason was germany. But even when I got that right, it reverted back to German text.

Now, I bought a Nest Wifi. Had to reset a configure a lot of thing.

The situation now is: It stays in uk English as I configured it, but it doesn't swipe up. Imagine it didn't installed automatically some firmware?

For now, since the new network connection, the only anomaly i’m identifying is that it’s not swiping up.  It doesn’t pause the music with gestures also.

Sorry, in the meantime it started to swipe up lol
