Nest Mini Stopping Activity Other Nest Speakers

Biggbrother

I have a Nest Mini that recently when being issued the command to "Stop", instead of stopping the podcast or music on itself, it will stop the timer or music on another device in a completely different part of the house.

For example, I could be playing a podcast in my bathroom, and when I'm ready to stop I will say "Hey Google, stop.". Instead of stopping the podcast, the Nest Mini will respond "Okay. Stopping timer on kids bathroom speaker" which my kids had started as they brushed their teeth for 2 minutes. Sometimes it will do the same thing for a timer on the kitchen display which is a Nest Max. Now I have to remember to say "Stop playing on this device."

Previously it did not do this and this new behavior seems counterintuitive. Is this a bug anyone else is seeing and can it be fixed?

Hi Biggbrother,

This is not the experience we want you to have; let me help you. A few questions: aside from your Nest Mini, which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

In addition, you can retrain the Voice Match to have your devices synchronized. Follow the steps below:

  1. Make sure the customer's mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as the speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. At the top right, tap the account (the icon with the customer’s initial or profile picture).
  4. Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow icon and then choose another account or Add another account .
  5. Tap to close the account window.
  6. Tap Settings and then Google Assistant  and then Voice Match.
  7. Tap the checkbox next to the devices the customer wants to teach to recognize their voice. They can also choose to automatically add Voice Match to devices added later.
  8. Follow the rest of the prompts.

Note:

  • To turn on Voice Match automatically for new devices in the same home, turn on Devices you add later.
  • Google Assistant uses your voice to access your personal information. If someone else’s voice is similar enough, they might be able to access your nformation. Only recommend that you turn on Personal results if you’re comfortable with this possibility.
