Nest Mini can't be set up with Google home

It's ridiculous that we can no longer set up the Nest Mini or Audio speaker in Google home on Android. The workaround is to use the Google home app on an Apple device. WTH Google?

Hi @twooten,

Thank you for reaching out to the community! I understand you're having trouble setting up your Nest Mini or Nest Audio on the Google Home app using your Android device. Thank you for letting me know that you've already tried setting up your devices with an iPhone. I would be happy to assist you with this.

Before we continue, I need to gather some relevant information regarding your case:

  • When did this issue begin?
  • Are you receiving any error messages?
  • What Android version are you currently using?

I will be awaiting your response.

Best regards,

Debora

Hi Debora,

I don't use an iPhone. I'm 100% a Google device user, but I do happen to have an iPad that is used for work. Anyway, I have a few nest minis, a couple of Google audio devices, and a couple of Google nest max speakers. I use these for Home Assistant and they've worked very well for me.

I recently moved and have been reintegrating everything. When I attempted to add the audio devices the Home app noted that I needed to use the Google utility app which is apparently not compatible with my up-to-date Pixel 9 Pro. The workaround which can be found on Reddit is to use the Home App on an Apple device (iPad, iPhone, etc.) I found this sort of weird to be honest.

I have my devices set up now so there is nothing to fix or troubleshoot, but I appreciate your response.
