Nest Mini speaker 2nd Gen

I now have a new wi-fi router. I tried to change the Nest Mini speaker to the new wi-fi but failed - so I did a factory reset. Muting the speaker and pressing the centre lights didn't work so I did the 'pull out the lead, wait 10 seconds, put the lead back etc ten times, and now the speaker says 'You're Google home isn't set up yet.......'

in Google home I go through the process of adding the speaker. We find the speaker, we can connect to it, but then it fails to do anything else and then I get 'Connection failed'.

Does anyone have any ideas what I should try next, other than throw the speaker out of the window?

Hello StuartH,

Thank you so much for posting in this community. I’m sorry to know that your Google Nest Mini (2nd generation) isn’t connecting to your wifi network even after performing a factory reset. Don’t worry; I would be more than happy to help.

I have some recommendations for you before connecting to the wifi network.

  1. Make sure to update your mobile device.
  2. Check that you’re using the most recent Google Home app version.
  3. Place your Nest speaker within 15-20 feet of your Wi-Fi router for optimal performance.

Then follow these troubleshooting tips.

  1. Reboot your wifi router and your Nest speaker.
    • Unplug the power cord from your speaker.
    • Leave it unplugged for ~1 minute.
    • Plug the power cord back in.
  2. If your router has two Wi-Fi bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), try connecting your device to both.
  3. Create a mobile WiFi hotspot. Once it is active, connect your device to the Wi-Fi network it creates, and let me know if you’re experiencing the same behavior.

For your reference, you can get more information by checking out this article: Fix issues with a Nest speaker or display not connecting to Wi-Fi.

Let me know how it goes; don’t hesitate to reply to this thread.

Best regards,

Daniel
