Nest Mini won't connect to wifi

Leef
Community Member

My nest mini, after years of working perfectly fine, has today disconnected itself from my wifi and refuses to reconnect.

I have tried:

- unplugging my mini for a 30-count

- unplugging my router for a 30-count

- checking that my Google Home is up to date

- factory resetting my mini

- hard restart of Google Home

- uninstalling / reinstalling Google Home

- connecting my phone's wifi to the mini itself and trying to connect to my wifi

- bringing my mini even closer to my router, despite it being only 10ft away from it

and literally nothing has worked. Someone please help?

Hi Leef,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand your Google Nest Mini has disconnected from your WiFi and won't reconnect again. I appreciate you for performing some troubleshooting steps to reconnect it. I'll be glad to help you with this!

To find the best solution, I'd like to ask the following:

  • Did you receive any error message when you tried to reconnect your Google Nest Mini?
  • Were there any recent changes to your WiFi network?
  • Is your Google Home app updated? Please check out the following link for your reference: Update the Google Home app

Please keep me posted. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Juan

No wifi network changes and the error message I've been getting after the reset was "Nest Audio couldn't connect to x, check your input" but I entered my wifi password correct, I double checked and copied it right off my PC

Just followed that link and yes, my Google Home app is fully updated.

Hi Leef,

Thanks for keeping me updated! Let's continue addressing this inconvenience. I have some more questions for you:

  • Are you trying to set up your Google Nest Mini on a standard home WiFi network or on a WiFi network that is shared or has special access?
  • Are other devices (phone, tablet, desktop, or laptop) able to connect to the same WiFi network?

Please keep me posted. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Juan

it's just a standard home wifi, nothing special but it *is* shared with the rest of my family and yes, my computer and phone and xbox are all able to connect easily as always, however I never have both my pc and any of my gaming consoles on at the same time, if my pc is on then nothing else is and vice-versa.

Hi Leef,

Thanks for getting back to me with this information. Let's try the following troubleshooting steps to isolate the root cause of this inconvenience:

  • Unplug your Wi-Fi router from the power source for 2 minutes.
  • Ensure that the router's lights turn off completely when unplugged.

Tip: Some routers have backup battery packs, so you need to disconnect the battery packs as well to ensure that the router is completely turned off.

  • After 2 minutes, plug the router back into its power source.
  • Once all the router lights are back on, check if the network name is available on your mobile device or computer.
  • Check if your Google Nest Mini now connects to your Wi-Fi.

Please let me know how it goes. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Juan

I'll give this a shot but it's going to take me a few days to find a moment where turning the internet off won't inconvenience the others I live with, I'll get back to you with the results as soon as I can!

I've done some thinking and thank you for trying to help but I think I'm going to give up on fixing whatever's wrong. I'll just put it in my closet and forget about it.
