Nest audio responds only on second command

Angstrom
Community Member

Nest Audio purchased in April 2022.

Worked fine until Oct/Nov 2022.

Similar issue.

Issue description:

It seems like Nest Audio needs to be woken up and the same command repeated immediately in quick succession.

The sequence of steps below is continuous without a significant time gap.

Scenario 1:

User: "Hey Google"

Nest Audio: 4 white LEDs light up.

User: "How's the temperature outside?"

Nest Audio: No response. LEDs switch off.

User: "Hey Google"

Nest Audio: 4 white LEDs light up.

User: "How's the temperature outside?"

Nest Audio: "Tonight the temperature is predicted to be minus 1 degree."

User: "Hey Google"

Nest Audio: 4 white LEDs light up.

User: "Will it rain tonight?"

Nest Audio: "No. Tonight there is a very low chance of rain".

Scenario 1 ends.

(No activity or interaction with Nest Audio for 10 mins)

Scenario 2:

User: "Hey Google"

Nest Audio: 4 white LEDs light up.

User: "What's the time now?"

Nest Audio: No response. LEDs switch off.

User: "Hey Google"

Nest Audio: 4 white LEDs light up.

User: "What's the time now?"

Nest Audio: "It's 5.30pm".

Scenario 2 ends.

(After 10mins of no activity or commands)

Scenario 3:

User: Casts music from phone to Nest Audio.

User: "Hey Google"

Nest Audio: 4 white LEDs light up. Music volume lowered.

User: "Stop playing music."

Nest Audio: LEDs switch off. Resumes playing music at previous volume level.

User: "Hey Google"

Nest Audio: 4 white LEDs light up.

User: "Stop playing music"

Nest Audio: Music stops playing. LEDs switch off.

Scenario 3 ends.

I had the exact same issue last year with a Google Home (1st gen) speaker. After troubleshooting with Google support, the device was replaced. I did not continue to use the replaced Google Home speaker. Sold it to cut my losses and purchased the Nest Audio. But, it seems like the same issue plagues Nest Audio as well.

Any solution?

Hi Angstrom,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. Have you had the opportunity to try the steps provided from the link you posted? Also, what is the distance between your Google Nest Audio and your Wi-Fi router?

You can adjust the sensitivity of your Nest Audio and observe if this will make a difference. See the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. Tap your Nest Audio icon.
  4. At the top right, tap Device settings Settings and then Audio and then “Hey Google” sensitivity.
  5. Choose how sensitive you want Google Assistant to be when it responds to you.
  • To change this setting on another device, tap Adjust more devices.

Regards,

Juni
