Our Nest does not understand my voice commands to turn lights on and off, unless I turn the voice match off. I can retrain that thing as many times as I want, and the second I turn voice match on it no longer understands my command to control lights. It says, "To control lights using Google Assistant, you'll need to get them set up in Assistant Settings," which they are.
My husband can control the lights with his voice. My 7-year-old can control the lights with her voice. And, again, I can too, as long as I have voice match OFF. Why doesn't it understand only my voice commands with my voice match on?

Hello CarlyS,
Thanks for posting here in the Community forum. I'd like to dig deeper into this.
Were you able to control your smart lights when the voice match was enabled before? If yes, when did this issue start? What troubleshooting steps have you tried?
If you were the one who set up the Google Home and the smart lights, remove your home members from your Home structure then retrain your voice and check if you can control your lights via voice commands. Once you confirm that it's working, you can re-add your home members.
Let me know how it goes.
Cheers,
Lovely

Hi CarlyS,
I'm chiming in to see if you were able to do the steps above. I'd be glad to hear from you — I'd like to make sure everything is working.
Thanks,
Lovely

Hi! I think that I was able to control lights with my voice match on, but it was probably about a year ago. It hasn't worked in quite some time.
The things I've tried so far are to retrain my voice multiple times, which doesn't work. So I just gave up trying to give the lights voice commands and turned them on and off manually. When I left this post was when I tried turning the voice match off. And that worked and is the first time I've been able to control the lights with my voice in quite some time. However, I now can't do anything that requires voice match.
I was not the one who set up the lights in the first place. My husband did. And he can control the lights with voice match on no problem. My 7-year-old daughter can as well, but she does not have voice match setup.
Should we try removing everyone from the home structure and starting again?

Hi CarlyS,
I really appreciate the detailed information. To isolate further, a few questions: which Nest speakers and smart lights are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made?
Before we restructure your devices, it would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:
This refreshes the link between all your devices.
Test it and tell me how it goes.
Best,
Dan
