Nest hub display link account bug

JunkyBirdbath
Community Member

I have 2 Google nest displays.  Both exhibit the following behavior.  I factory reset device.  The display works normally for a period of time usually days or a week maybe two.  Then device starts showing a screen telling me to:

Link Account

Open Google Home App and Link Your Account

Of course, this is not necessary and in fact imbossible to do since the app shows the device is linked to my account.

I can make the screen go away by power cycling the device.  Unfortunately, power cycling only makes it go away for hours or a day or two.  Factory reset takes me back to the beginning.

This has been happening for a couple of months.

I also have a nest hub max.  It never occurs on the hub max.

Does anyone from Google monitor and reply to this forum?  So many bugs, so few answers....

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for posting.

Sorry to hear about your experience with your Google Nest displays. I appreciate you sharing the steps you've done before contacting us. Since the device goes back to normal after a reboot or reset, has anyone tried linking or setting it up using a different Gmail account?

Let me know so I can further check the next steps to try. Lastly, can you please provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest Hub by following these steps:

  1. Make sure the mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as the Google Nest or Home device.
  2. Open the Google Home app .
  3. Tap the device card of the preferred speaker or display.
  4. At the top-right, tap Settings Settings and then Device information.
  5. Under Technical information, find Cast firmware:X.XXX.XXXXX.

I'll wait for your response.

Best,

Princess

System firmware: 290464

Cast firmware: 1.56.290464

I have about 4 Google home and nest devices connected to my network using the same Google account.  I don't want to use multiple accounts.

Hi JunkyBirdbath,

Thanks for the info.

Could you tell us if you're still experiencing the same thing with your Google Nest Hub?

Best,

Princess

I have 2 of these devices.  One of the hasn't experienced this issue in a few weeks.  It occurs on the second one every 2 or 3 days.  A power cycle causes the screen to go away until the issue recurs.

Hi JunkyBirdbath,

Thanks for the info.

Let's go ahead and try to perform a complete reset then set it up again.

Let me know if you will still get the same thing.

Best,

Princess

I've factory reset the device several times.
