Nest mini for quadriplegic?

JeffGilbert
Community Member

Hi

I'm trying to set up hands-free calling for someone who cannot use their hands.

Using her phone I can "Hey Google call foo on speakerphone", but can't hang up - the wake phrase is not recognized when phone is in use.  This article on cnet suggests that it should work. Is there a way, or do I just need to wait for the other party to end the call.

It would be nice to use the Nest Mini for its superior microphone and speaker, but I also can't end the call without touching something.  And beyond that, but the three mechanisms in this support.google article have severe limitations.

  • Using Duo requires the other party to use Duo.  Since many of her calls are to doctors, this is a no go.
  • Google Voice can make calls, but can't receive unless I get a new phone number.  Notifying everyone of a new phone number is impractical.
  • Carrier calling can't receive calls at all

Maybe I'm missing something? Thoughts?

Thanks, Jeff
