Hi. I have problems with my Google nest mini gen 2 speaker. It keeps stopping to work. When I try and give it a command I just hear a double low tone beep sound and it refuses to work. Reset it already multiple times and it keeps stopping to work doing the aforementioned . I have checked online for various solutions from resetting my internet router to Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, nothing works it keeps happening. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi Byron,
Thanks for your help.
I have the nest set to English UK. It doesn’t respond at all anymore (only a sort of double beep tone of refusal) when powered on. The lights are white. I’ve had this nest for 2 years ish and this started since about early Jan 2025. Everytime it stops responding like that, within a day or two usually, I have fully reset it and set it up again via the Google home app, only for the circle of evil to start again.
Any idea what’s wrong?
Thanks
Tine

Hi TineH,
Thank you for your response. I appreciate the effort to troubleshoot this situation. Help's here.
I just need to ask some additional questions:
Does the same situation occur when others speak to the Nest Mini 2nd Gen?
What kind of environment does the Nest Mini 2nd Gen fail in? Examples: Is the environment noisy, normal, or quiet?
Where is the Nest Mini 2nd Gen placed? Examples: Is the device by itself, up against the wall, next to a TV or audio speaker, or next to a microwave?
Is there anything that covers the Nest Mini 2nd Gen? (Example: If a child has decorated the speaker with stickers)
Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.
Regards,
Byron

Thanks Byron.
Yes the same happens with other voices.
It’s in the living room, on a chest of drawer, nothing much around it except a tall glass candle holder, same room as the WiFi router. Not a noisy place. Nothing covers or interferes with the nest.
Just everytime after I reset it and think it’s ok again, bam here we go it stops working/ responding.
I’m starting to think it’s just broken and won’t work properly again.
Thanks, Tine

Hi TineH,
Thank you for your response. I appreciate the detailed information.
Based on your answers. Please follow the next steps:
Verify if the Nest Mini 2nd Gen microphone is not blocked. For the Nest Mini 2nd Gen, the microphone is under a fabric cover. Ensure there is nothing on top of the fabric cover.
Reboot the Nest Mini 2nd Gen. Please do the following:
Disconnect the power cable from the Nest Mini 2nd Gen.
Leave it unplugged for approximately one minute.
Reconnect the power cable back into the Nest Mini 2nd Gen.
Please try to speak with the correct hotword "Okay Google" or "Hey Google," and the LEDs will turn on correctly.
Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.
Regards,
Byron

Hi TineH,
Thank you for your prompt response. I appreciate the detailed information. Let's check other options.
Check the audio recording quality. Do the following:
Ask your Nest Mini 2nd Gen a question and check the audio quality.
Do a long press and give the following command: "What's the weather outside?"
After that, please check the audio recording in My Activity. Here are the steps:
Open the Google Home app, then tap Settings.
Under Home features, then tap Privacy.
Verify your Google Account on screen is the one linked to your Nest Mini 2nd Gen. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow icon, then choose another account or Add another account.
Select Home activity. Note: These open a list of all recent voice commands you have given.
Identify the most recent command that generated a failed response.
Select Details below their Assistant Query (this will expand out the details).
Tap the Play button on the query card (have them play a few) to confirm from My Activity what your Nest Mini 2nd Gen heard at the time the situation occurred.
Check if the audio recording is clear or if there is static, buzzing, or distortion.
Please let me know how it goes and keep me posted.
Regards,
Byron
