Nest mini keeps disconnecting from WiFi

Khotique
Community Member

As the original topic was closed, I'm making a new topic because I still have the problem on my side:
my 2 “Nest Mini” disconnect from Wifi every day! I have to reconnect them every time.
I have already checked everything and performed a factory reset, nothing changes: they disconnect again.

Google: If you can't fix the problem, stop selling this product because it's really a joke to your customers!
Would it be possible to refund my 2 products so that I can go to the concurrent who seem to be better engineers!

(similar thread open @ 2022... and still no resolution... crazy !!! https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Nest-mini-keeps-disconnecting-from-WiFi...)

if this helps in resolving the incident:

I am on a MESH network with 2 AX wifi routers.
The wifi power is optimal.

I have a Google Home Mini (first generation) which has never had this disconnection problem.
The problem is only localized on my 2 nest mini...!

Hi Khotique,

This certainly hasn’t been easy for you. Let’s further look into it.

A few questions:

  • How long did the device work before the connectivity issue started?
  • How was the connectivity issue discovered? Did the device give an audible error like: “I can't reach the internet right now. Check your modem or router connection and try again.”
  • Are there other Google Nest speakers in the home aside from these two? If yes, do other speakers also experience similar issues?
  • What is the firmware version of your Google Nest Mini devices?
  • What’s the make and model of your router? Is it dual-band?

I’ll look forward to your response.

Regards,
Alex

Hi there,

Thanks for the information provided. To add, what’s the last activity your Google Nest Mini devices do before they start to disconnect from the Wi-Fi? This activity could be anything like stereo pairing, music casting, media casting on audio groups, or asking basic questions. If others, please specify.

Try to change the DNS server on your router to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 > Reboot the router for 2 minutes > Reboot your Google Nest Mini devices > Monitor. If the issue persists, kindly send feedback using your Google Nest Mini:

  • Enable Send device usage data and crash reports to Google.
    • Open the Google Home app.
    • Tap your Google Nest Mini device's tile > Settings.
    • Tap Recognition & sharing.
    • Toggle the slider to turn it on.
  • Voice command your Google Nest Mini: “Hey Google, send feedback. GHT3 Nest Mini disconnects from Wi-Fi. I have attempted to reset, but the problem keeps happening every [day].”.

Best,
Alex

have the exact same problem. Nest mini keeps disconcerting from wifi and all it manage to say when i say "hey google" is a "beep beep" like a sad droid... the i  reset the mini and it works for a day or two... the back to the sad droid "Beep Beep"... think im gone rename my nest Marvin...
anyhow, i have done all the dum*** that you think will fix the problem, reset and unplugged router, wifi, garden hose and so on and so forth. even moved Marvin to a new location for a change of scenery, new wifi setup, no disturbing network buddies just a router and Marvin... worked for 1-2 days then he was back to the charming normal Marvin self  "Beep Beep"...
Guess Marvin needs some serous help or he might just end up in the lake..

What really annoys me is that several people are having the same problem and Google doesn't take the problem seriously, it's really unprofessional, I'm like you, it's going to go out the window and I'm going to buy a competing brand!

I have the same issue and have been posting here and talking to Google's support via email for close to a year now. All they've said is that they don't support WiFi 6, but my Wifi is backwards compatible with WiFi 5 according to TP-Link. They then offered me Google Store credit which I turned down, and my last message to them was a week ago and I haven't had any response. My original post with this exact same issue was shut down without a solution:

I have the same issue with one of my nest minis.  I started as a nuisance and gradually got worse over about a month time span.  Many times it would respond with "please wait while I get connected to wifi".  I did several factory resets but it did not change anything.

I have the exact same version of another mini sitting right next to it (same model and firmware) and that mini works fine.

The only thing I can pin this on would be a hardware problem with the glitchy mini's wifi radio.

Same problem with mine. I have 3 Nest Minis and 1 Google one. The Nest ones have to be rebooted every day. My router and switch are on battery backup so I know they aren't dropping signal.

I have the same problem. I haven't found any solution with Google support

Same issue for me. There's no solution at all. It's unbelievable that Google keeps selling that product.

I have this same issue with my google mini speakers.  Just started in the past 6 months.  The Nest Home Mini never misses a beat, and I've had google mini speakers throughout my home for 3 years +.  Super annoying, as it will happen multiple times per day.  More often than not, when I walk into a room, the response is "Wait while I get connected to wifi."  Ridiculous.  Have to unplug and reboot them constantly.  Very disappointing to see there's not a known fix available.  😕

Encountering exactly the same problem here with my Google Nest Mini. With me it only started the last couple of weeks. Before it was finding the WiFi and connecting well. Having the same firmware version and also using a WiFi 6 modem (backwards compatible). I'm using this modem for months already. I was hoping to find a solution here, but it doesn't look like Google has provided a solution so far. Let's hope they take it serious and get with a fix soon.

Same issue here. Message says disconnected from internet

Khotique

In my opinion the problem is hardware because it's the WIFI antenna of the nest which goes wrong after a while from one day to the next (1 year, several months, etc.) => so on the software side they can't do anything and do the dead... #programmed_obsolescence it's really a shame !

we can make an action class perhaps?

Same issue with me. I have a tri band WiFi 6 router. The 1st gen minis, 1st gen google home and Chromecast 4K connect perfectly fine but 2nd gen mini disconnects from wifi every single day.

Yep - same issue.  GOOGLE fix this!!!!

Almost every day I get "I can't reach the internet now".  I have to unplug and re-apply power and ok for a day again.

The family room mini has worked fine for several years and this started happening for me about 3 months ago and now occurs almost every day 😞  So would think this is a firmware problem since worked for a long time and now "broke").

I have 2 google mini's (Family Room & BedRoom).

Issue is ONLY on Family Room Mini which is weird since is within 2 feet of my Unify Dream Machine.  NO other device has ANY connectivity issues except this one.  (So Maybe something I'm running on Google Mini every day?)

On the "bad" google mini family room, i do run routines often by voice command.  Such as "good night", "I'm leaving home", "turn tv on".

Hope this information can help google fix 🙂

I also came here looking for a fix. I have 3 minis in the house and the one in the family room is the oldest, I think a gen 1 Google home mini (it doesn't have a reset button and the G ins printed in the centre underneath) and it does make sounds when it disconnects from WiFi, it just stops responding to "Hey Google" and the first I know is usually my phone tries to pick up the request and I look round and the mini has no lights on.

I check the Home app and the device is offline.

I've tried all the tricks and it usually fixes it for a day or so.

I have to admit, I just bought a nest hub to replace it as it's currently only £5 more than a mini, and I have 2 Nest Hubs in other rooms and they are great.

I shouldn't have to replace it tho, there's no reason it should just stop connecting.

Hey guys i have the same problem. As it seems many have this problem. The developers must understand that they must fix it!!!! So please google just fix it!

I switched up the locations of the nest mini and the google mini such that the nest mini is closer to the router — this seems to do the trick. The connection no longer drops.

it appears like nest mini just has bad range.

Interesting.  I don't think this is the trouble with mine.  I have multiple minis throughout the house as well as multiple wifi mesh routers ensuring strong signal, even as far as the perimeter of my lot 100+ feet away from my house.  This was never an issue before, even with a single router in the house.  Same google minis.  (Also some new ones)  This is clearly a software issue that Google needs to address.  An unplug and re-plug brings them back online 100% of the time.  If it is a connection issue, its a software bug, not a limitation of the hardware.  I NEVER have this issue with the Alexa dots that are also throughout the house.

Are Google actually doing anything about the connectivity issues? I'm also experiencing this, or rather my daughter is. She has three Nest Minis which started disconnecting from Wi-Fi, but over a period of time. One of them stayed working for several weeks after the first one disconnected. I've reset them all, made sure the latest firmware was loaded and they worked for a few days but then started to disconnected, again over a period of days and not all at the same time. I brought two of the Minis back to my house and have experienced exactly the same problem. They work for a few days and then randomly disconnect from the Wi-Fi. The fact that this fault has repeated itself at two different locations I feel eliminates the Wi-Fi and internet connection from possible causes. Anyone managed to get this resolved yet? I will start a new thread so hopefully Google support gets to see it.

Reading all the replies, I also have the same issue. Have to unplug and plug in my nest mini several times a day. Disappointing that it's obviously an issue that many people have yet Google haven't provided any answers or solutions

timkaz

I have 2 mini's that do the same thing.  Every 1-2 days I have to unplug it & re-plug to get it working.  Also, have 2 Nest Home Hub's w/ the screen and 2 JBL weather proof speakers with google built in.  No issues with the other devices.

timt10

I don't think that re-plugging does the trick for me. I need to remove it from my Google Home and reset the mini. But it might be that I don't wait long enough after re-plugging. Will test it.

Pembrae

That's my experience also. The Minis work for a while then start replying "can't find WI-FI network". What's strange is that they don't all do it atthe same time. There can be days between the first stopping working and the next. The only way I can get them back is to reset them and add them to my network again. Very frustrating.

I have the same issue.  Rebooting it doesn't work so I have to do a factory reset.  It happens every 4 days.  I now have to factory reset it before going to bed just to make sure it gets me up in the morning.  I also have a Google Nest Audio in the Lounge which has no issues.

I have a mini and google hub and two cameras. No problem with the cameras but hub and mini constantly disconnect from my WiFi. I’ve had same setup for over a year, same modem same internet everything. Problem started about 3weeks ago. Please contact me about this problem.

Wil68

I have now been rebooting the Google Nest Mini daily using a smart plug programmed to switch it off for 5 minutes every day at a convenient moment. I'm doing this now for 1 week and I haven't got any issues anymore. I also have the impression the connectivity in general is much better. Before both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection where not very stable and now it is working fine. For me this indicates it concerns a software problem and nothing is actually changed to the hardware. Google, can you please take care of this?

Mines doing the exact same thing as everyone else in here. I've had consistent issues for different reasons for MONTHS. Literally about to toss this. I have a Lenovo hub connected to my account and has had ZERO ISSUES. I'm literally so tired of fighting my nest mini every day 😫

My minis (I have 6) are having the same issue as everyone else too.  Very frustrating to have to restart them every time I want to use them.  I also have a Google Mesh wifi system in my home... If the Google Mini can't stay connected to Google Mesh wifi I am not sure there is hope for a fix.

I have 3 minis in my house. 1 Google Home Mini that works like a champ. Then I have 2 Nest Minis that have different problems. One of them "works" to the extent that it seems to be connected to the internet and will field voice requiests and we can cast music to it, but it will not do voice match and it always shows as offline in the Google Home app (which means there are things I can't do with it still). The other nest mini loses it's wifi connection every day or two for no reason whatsoever and I keep factory resetting and setting it back up. To note, I have factory reset both Nest Minis at least 10 times to end up with the same "different" results for both devices. The part that makes me shake me head even more is that I have a Google Wifi Mesh Network. Google's products can't even work with their own brand of Wifi Mesh Product. SMH.....

I have the same issue as everyone. My google mini has been in the same place for over a year and only about three weeks ago did this happen. Now it happens every night…

bad software push google?

I started to think to hardware, not software issue... I'm wondering if there's some room for a class action against Google, they never listen to our complaints. And they keep selling this product.

Seems this is a problem encountered by many with no viable solution in sight.  My two units worked fine for a couple of years.  Do these units have a short life-span?  One unit continues to work great while the other units says to hang on while it gets a connection.  Unfortunately, it cannot connect on its own.  After many pull and reseat plugs, I still encounter issues often during the same day.  I factory-reset the device and switched locations with my good-working device.  Within an hour "the faulty unit" told me it was looking for a network.  This "faulty unit" is now within 4 feet of the router.  The "Good unit" was moved to the previous lcation of my "faulty device and it continues to work without.  Reviewing all of the various threads here and elsewhere, it seems there is no solution but a lot of talk of trying everything but not finding anything that works.
