Nest wired doorbell - Microphone issue

DavidK001
Community Member

Dear all,

i have some issue with my nest doorbell wired.

more specifically the microphone. When monitoring only the microphone works fine. However when someone buzz and I pick up the live feed, I cannot hear a single word when people try to speak. Clearly something wrong with the software. If was not happening a month + ago. Only recently. Can you please fix asap as this is quite frustrating.

thanks

Hello DavidK001,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To confirm, did this issue occur out of the box? If not, when did you notice the problem? Does the issue occur on multiple mobile devices? Is the audio issue persistent or intermittent? If intermittent, how often does it happen?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Check your Google Home app or Nest app permissions:
    • For Android users: Go to the phone’s Settings Apps Google Home or Nest Permissions, and make sure Microphone is enabled.
    • For iOS users: Go to the device’s Settings Google Home or Nest Permission, and make sure Microphone is enabled.
  2. Test if your device’s microphone is working.
  3. Open the default voice recorder app or any other app that uses your device’s microphone and test your device’s microphone on the app.
  4. Check if the device is connected to a Bluetooth device that may be serving as the microphone.

Hit this link for more information and let us know your update here.

Hi DavidK001,

I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. How's it going with your Nest Doorbell? We would appreciate it if you could share the information I’m asking above. Also, were you able to perform the steps I’m suggesting? We'd be glad to hear from you.

Thanks,
Emerson

I am afraid this is still not working.

is anything software related.

the microphone is working perfectly when i am monitoring. i can hear people / neighbour speakings or hear the street very clearly on the app.

however as soon as someone use the doorbell/ buzz my nest doorbell. the microphone is not working anymore. I cannot hear the person trying to speak at the door on the app.

this is not a microphone issue and this is clearly working. It seems software related when you pick up after someone ringing. I saw another post suggesting some issues similar to mine. Please check with your colleagues.

the control and microphone was working fine both on monitoring and answering the doorbell.

Hey DavidK001,

Thanks for getting back to us. Just to be sure, were you able to follow the steps suggested above? Do you have the 1st or 2nd gen wired Nest Doorbell? Try reinstalling your app and check the difference. Also, you may reset your Nest Doorbell to the factory default and let us know how it goes.

Best,
Emerson

I have the first generation doorbell.

Hard reset done

uninstall reinstall Nest app.

Same issue.

Issue is when I press I want to talk on my Nest app then I cannot hear anything about the person on the other side.

The microphone is working perfectly I can hear when it is in full time recording mode. As soon as I try to speak. I have a loud background noise. This makes me think something has changed with the software.

Why others have similar issue?

Hello DavidK001,

We appreciate your update. Your Nest Doorbell would cancel the sound of your visitor when you press the microphone icon from your Nest app, because the Nest app would prioritize your end to speak and when you don't press the microphone icon and your visitor speaks, you should be able to hear them. I hope this sheds some light on your concern. Let me know if you have other questions in mind.

Best,

Emerson

Can I know why it never happened to me before for the last 2 years? I was always able to speak and hear the person on the other side? Now when I press 'talk' I hear some loud noise. I see other I have the same issue. This is is clearly something related to a recent update. PLease check with your technical team if any other precedent. It seems to be the case. so please let me know when is the next update that will fix this issue?
