New Google nest

Loraine60

I’ve bought my first device and followed the instructions. The nest has been detected on the home app but it says it is not connected to WiFi. But my phone is connected to WiFi. The help section says reset to factory settings but it’s brand new! A Chinese or Japanese woman occasionally talks through the speaker. Any help gratefully received.

All my devices are conected to the internet, nest mini is detected in the Google home app but it will not accepted the internet connection were all my other devices are to connected.

It’s very annoying when the set up is meant to be easy! If I can’t get it to work I will have no option but to take it back. Is there a helpline we can use, do you know? I found the ‘help’ section pretty poor tbh.

Hi folks,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Let’s see what’s going on with your Google Home/Nest device. A few questions: when you set up your Google Home, did you get a message when connecting it to your Wi-Fi? Are you using Android or iOS? How far is your Google Home/Nest device from your router?

I know that you have questions about the factory reset but it is important to revert your device back to its default and original settings. Doing so will help a lot so click this link and follow the steps.

Also, make sure that the setup device(phone, tablet) is connected to the same network where the speaker or display is connected. Don't forget to turn off mobile/cellular data. Must be within 15 ft from your router.

I’ll be waiting for your reply.

Regards,

Dan

Hello Dan

When I set up my google home app it asked for my google account, but did not ask about my WiFi or to connect to it. I’m using iOS and my router is about 8ft away. I will do the factory reset but given it is brand new I am very comfortable about doing it.

Hello Dan,

I had to do the work around to reset the factory settings but I’m pleased to sat it is now working. However it will not link my Spotify account and therefore I cannot play my music. This was the prime purpose for my purchase. Can you tell me what I have to do to link my Spotify? I think it is because it is a family account which I share and therefore my Gmail is not listed on Spotify.

Hi Loraine60,

That’s great to hear that you’re able to set up your Google Home/Nest device.

About your Spotify account try the steps below:

  • Uninstall your Spotify app from your mobile device
  • Link your Spotify account to your Google Home app
  • Set it as the default music platform
  • After you link it, you can now reinstall your Spotify app
  • For more details click this link.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Dan

Hi Dan
I’ve not been at home this week so I’ve not tried to resolve the Spotify issue yet. I may need more help on this … but will let you know.
The Spotify account is not in my name but my son in laws, which we share. Does that matter at all?

Hey there,

DutchJohannes, that's great to hear. There might be some settings that needs to be configure on your router. You may contact your router or Internet Service Provider for that.

Loraine60, it doesn't matter if you're using a different Spotify account. However, if you're both using the same Spotify account and one of you plays music, there's a chance that the other music will stop.

Best,

Alex

Is working on an other wifi network, so problem is partially solved.

Most likely to do with security settings network.
