Got new router which has new network.  Google mini does not factory reset by pressing button and or unplugging and plugging 10 times after 10 sec. Also unable to use Google home app to reset as it says I have to factory reset mini device.  Can anyone walk me through?

Hello FrankHawaii,

Thanks for sharing details about the issue here. I know how it feels when you're having issues resetting your Google Home Mini. I'd love to dig deeper into this. A few questions: how many LED lights do you have on your speaker when you try to reset it? What color?

Let's try these steps below. Make sure to follow them sequentially:

  1. On the side of the device, unplug the power cord > wait 10 seconds > plug the power cord back in > wait for the 4 LED lights to light up.
  2. Repeat the first step, 10 more times.
  3. On the last attempt, wait for the device to announce "Welcome to Google Home".
  4. Set up the device in the Google Home app.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Muddi,

Thank you for responding to my question.  The button on bottom of my 2nd gen mini does nothing.  Found instructions on internet showing just what you suggested about plugging and unplugging 10 times when lights light up sometimes color, sometimes white,  no sound sometimes.  no message saying it is reset.  When I talk to it it says, "your Google isn't set up yet, download...."  I open my Google Home from before which was set up on a different network and router and chose set up new device and it said this device was setup for a different user (which was me of course) and said you have to factory reset your device!  Which means nothing was changed.  Google home is still using the info from the other router and network and the mini device could not be reset as you suggested.  Could it be I should have chosen existing device?  I was afraid if I chose that it would reconnect to the old router which I no longer have as it stopped working and was defective.  How can I clear all info from my account and start fresh? as tweaking does not seem to work.  TY in advance, I will check again if I can make it back to this site, by the way it doesn't notify me when you left a reply like Microsoft's site does even though I have checked the box below.

Hi FrankHawaii,

That certainly hasn’t been easy for you. Let’s further look into it. I wanted to confirm what version of “Mini” device you have. Is it the one that has orange rubber at the bottom (Google Home Mini) or a white surface with a hole for wall mounting (Google Nest Mini)? Once it is confirmed what version of device you have, kindly check how it can be factory reset. If it still fails to work, let me know.

Regards,
Alex
