News sources are not being played on my connected speaker

hi there,

since a week or so, the following issue emerges: I have an automation set up ("good morning") that includes my connected high end speaker playing a few news sources from various radio stations.

I see (and hear) my news hub starting the automation, it also switches to my speaker (introduction "here is the news from....." on the actual speaker) but then it goes silent, while both the news hub, and the app of the external speaker clearly indicate news is being played on that speaker.

Already did a factory reset of the high end speaker without results. The customer service (high end speaker) indicated the google hub/device probably doesn't actually stream the radio station to the speaker....

Hey mate, try unlinking and relinking the speaker in the Google Home app or test streaming directly from the Hub to the speaker without the automation to Fix the problem. Hope that helps

thx for helping out, but unfortunately did not solve the issue. Direct streaming from radio app to external speaker is no problem, but the automation seems to be a problem. The automation message (the voice) even switches from the google device to the actual external speaker, but then it stops (the actual streaming of the station does not come through, but... the google hub (screen), even it indicates the news is running (visual from the news station etc). so i'm quite puzzled.

Hi lardenoye,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear that you are having this situation with the automations on your Google Speaker device. I understand how frustrating the situation can be when things do not work as planned. But don't worry; let's try to make it work smoothly again. Please try to detele you automation/routine and then create it again.

Here is how to delete it:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Automations.
  3. Select the custom routine that you want to delete.
  4. At the top right, tap Delete > Delete Routine.

And here is how to recreate the routine:

Important: To get results like calendar events and commute info, you must turn on personal results.
  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Automations > Add > Select Personal.
  3. To name your routine, tap Untitled.
    • If you add a voice starter before you name your routine, the voice starter becomes the name.
  4. Add the starters and actions you want. Note: If your routine is set to start automatically and includes actions with audio, specify the device you want the audio to play on. At the bottom, tap Play on > select a device > tap Done.
  5. Tap Save.

Please let me know how this goes. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,

Jenny

I did all mentioned, unfortunately no improvements. did a new search in your database, and found this: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/TuneIn-stopped-working-on-Google-Home/m... which is exactly going on within my setup currently.

streaming from tunein app directly to speaker: ok
streaming from individual radio apps to speaker: partly (dutch stations stop after google mini introduces them, Belgian stations: ok)
streaming with the help of an customized automation, news items only from selected sources: after introduction on the google mini, it stops.

streaming from home app, peronsonal

Hi lardenoye,

Thanks for your reply and all the information provided. I appreciate that you try the recommendations above. But don't worry; let's try other options. In this case, please try to set an alarm routine with the radio of your preference and another one without the radio just like a normal alarm. This process is to make the proof and check the functionality.

Here are the steps to set your personal alarm:

On Nest displays, you can use the screen to set and manage alarms, as well as adjust alarm settings.

To open alarm settings, swipe up from the bottom of your screen and tap Alarms.

  • To set a new alarm, tap Set an alarm, choose custime, tapur settings. Tap Done.
  • To delete or change the settings of an existing alarm, tap the alarm.
  • To delete, tap Delete.
  • To change the settings, choose the settings you want and tap Done.

Please let me know how this works. Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenny

hi there,

On the nest display, installed an alarm (there was no option to choose news sources, only the regular google soundbytes), also the alarm can only be played from the net display, there were no options to set the alarm on any other google home device, or the extternal speaker (B&O).

Re-checking the automation rule. it even indicates on the display, the radio station is being played on the external speaker, within the app of the external speaker (B&O) it also indicates news/radio is being casted through Google cast, It does play the commercial messages on the B&O speaker (prior to the selected radio station) but after that it goes silent.

When i play directly from the B&O app to the speaker it works flawless. seems to be the google automation rules/set ups have gone bad since some last update. as soon as i remove google as the casting-hub, all goes well. I really would like to have automation... 😕
