No longer able to set an alarm on insignia voice speaker NS-CSPGASP

terrytad

The insignia speaker in question is probably four or five years old.
The speaker has Google assistant on it. Just recently unable to set an alarm.  Google response to trying to set alarm “sorry what’s the day and time”.  This feature has worked fine for years.

The Google assistant responds to all other function as it has in the past.

I have reset the speaker, reinstalled it on Google Home, restarted Wi-Fi, etc.
Any assistance is appreciated

Hey folks,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues setting up an alarm on your Insignia speakers. Please note that we have very limited support for third-party speakers with built-in Google Assistants. Since rebooting and resetting the device did not resolve the issue, it is best to reach out to Insignia Support for better assistance.

Cheers,

Muddi

Amazon sells the same thing, but they don’t include an extra port in the back to power your accessories, and it’s difficult for YouTube music to come through.

Lenovo has a Google smart clock. Just got 2 of them

I heard Lenovo was having the same issue.  Which model?

Which model number?

I too have experienced the issue.  On my reach out to insignia (#), I got the same advice everyone has posted (reset, restart network, etc.).  Nothing worked, and no issue with any genuine google device setting alarms.

Of course, no warranty because of the age, and even shared with them other information on the web that showed I wasn't alone with this issue.  Received a lame response from Insignia, but if enough reading this send a quick email, we might generate enough attention.

The email is insignia 'at' bestbuy dot com.

Just sent my email. Hopefully they do something about it!

Here is my reply from Insignia / Best Buy:

"Thank you for your prompt response and added information.

I still need to confirm the Model# of your Insignia product. (Please provide the model number that begins with an "NS.")

At this time, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

Step 1. Reboot your speaker or display
Disconnect the power cable from the Google Nest or Home device.
Reconnect power cable back into the Google Nest or Home device.
Step 2. Set desired timer or alarm as a test

Use the following commands:
Timer: “Hey Google, set a timer for XX min” (“Hey Google, set a timer for 1 min”).
Alarm: “Hey Google, set an alarm for XX” (Hey Google, set an alarm for 3 PM”).

Step 3. Confirm if your speaker or display recognized the question correctly
Ask your speaker or display to “Repeat the question.” Note: This will repeat the last question you asked.

If it isn't repeated correctly, ask the question once more.

If it still isn't recognizing the question, speak slower or try another question and have your speaker or display repeat the question to verify it was understood correctly.

If it still does not fix the issue, try to set the alarm by saying the word combination "set alarm for the day after today at..." And then provide a time.

It might also set if you say 2 days after today or something similar. Some of the models will not work as soon as you give a specific calendar day or just a time.

Please, let us know if the steps provided helped you out.

If you have any other inquiry, please let me know and I will reply as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Insignia Products

Of course, nothing worked.

Having the same issue. Been working around it by setting a timer. Did get an alarm set for the same day by saying "set alarm for today at X time" but now that doesn't seem to work.

Exact same. Who made a change on 11/16/2023 to break this one at an alarm feature on this device? Please roll back whatever change broke this.

Same issue with my Insignia speaker.

Same issue for me.  Tried rebooting the device. Deleted and added it again. Various other things tried too. Nothing has fixed it.

I have contacted Best Buy support.  Online support was not able to assist.  We have an appointment scheduled to review the issue. I will send updates on what they have to say.

Any updates

Seems like the issue has been resolved. Thanks to Google for following up on this.

Started woth all 3 of my insignia units upon reboot. Unfortunately since insignia ceased making these units we probably wont be able to fix this issue.

I am invested in both google and Alexa. Other that youtube premium and connecting my galaxy phone to my alpine car stereo I dont see a need to invest further into google. AC thermostat, cameras, outlets, switches and bulbs all work with Alexa so might just be time to put googles out to pasture...skeet shooting style. 😉

I have the same issue.  I also reset the device and set it up fresh and same issue.  Can't set the alarm.  It was working a week ago.  Please fix Google.

I'm having the exact same problem. I've been able to finally set something saying "weekdays" or weekends. Very frustrating!

This is the best work around yet! Thanks!  The other work around is setting timer instead of an alarm. Maybe they will fix their corrupt firmware...

I'm having the same problem. Also, around the same time this started I seem to have a phantom routine on my speaker...every night at midnight it says "goodnight" and plays rain sounds. Anyone else experiencing that too?

Yes, I have 4 in my home. None can set an alarm. Lame. An alarm clock that can't alarm

This sucks it seems they want us to upgrade and are not vested in finding us a solution the insignia speaker is an older model but the sound quality is great and it's definitely lasted up until this last update!

I’m also having the same issue.

I'm having the same problem.  It started at the same time as everyone else mentioned.  I'm very disappointed to hear that there appears to be no fix.  I have used it as my morning alarm for years.  😞  I will email Insignia.

I'm having the same issue too.

I just reopened my ticket with Insignia and shared this thread post.  We might get lucky and have someone pay attention.

I tried many variations of setting an alarm for tomorrow at 8am.   The one that finally worked was "Set an alarm for the day after today at 8am."

I have 2 of these and at the same time, the 2nd one will not connect to wifi.

I had tried many combos that all failed, but I just tried this.  It works for me, too!!  Thanks for the tip.

Now, we need a solution for setting an alarm for some day/date in the future that is not tomorrow...

genius - worded for me as well! thanks

Same problem here.  But the ridiculous sentence is a Temporary workaround.  This can't be that hard to fix.

Thank you for the tip. It worked!!! I feel like they just want us to buy a new one which makes no sense since it works perfectly fine besides the alarm issue that should be easily solved by them.

Ridiculous, but it worked for me too.

Worked for me.  Problem solved!

Soldi

Haha that worked for me as well.. but just saying "set an alarm for tomorrow at 5:30" does not work still, and haven't since mid November -> your solution will be ok untill there is a permanent fix

This should be marked as the answer not the "it is best to reach out to Insignia Support for better assistance."

Thanks, that worked for me. Using "set an alarm on mondays..." and most repeating alarms still seem to work. The thought of having to toss all three of my alarm clocks was not pleasant.

hyeefive

Yep, this works! Having to say "Set alarm for the day after today at 4:30AM" is kind of stupid.
