dbolst
Community Member

I have had Apple Music connected to my google home for over a year with no issues.

tjis week stopped being able to play music.  And now I can’t see any way to link Apple Music to the google home ..

have updated iOS and have also updated all apps to the latest version.

have google removed the ability to link Apple Music subscription in Australia?

Hi @dbolst,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear you're not able to add any music services provider. I'm happy to help!

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • What type of Nest device do you have?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

Please try the steps here:

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany

Hi - the issue is that there is no longer the option to add any subscription services to the google home app?  Has nothing to do with the hardware

Hi there!

Thanks for the follow-up information.

Please let's check these tips:

  • Account: Make sure you're using the correct Google account.
  • Restart the phone or tablet: This can often resolve temporary software glitches.
  • Uninstall the app: If restarting your device doesn't help, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Home app.
  • Regarding your subscription: For subscription-related inquiries, please contact your service provider directly. They can assist with subscription management, including activation, cancellation, and troubleshooting.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Melany

This hasn’t solved my experience of the same issue

I’m having the same problem and the same timeline. In the iOS app, Apple Music is no longer linked after working for years, and there isn’t an option to add any music services, Apple Music, Spotify or anything else…

Hi, I have filled out the form.

Are you able to confirm is it possible to link an Apple Music subscription to Google Home? It used to be possible and now doesn’t seem to be an option.

I have restarted my device. I have reinstalled the app. I have recreated my home. I have created a new home within the app. Nothing allows this option to work any more.

good luck - takes 3 days to get a reply, and it’s just generic nonsense which doesn’t answer the question..

i don’t know why this is so hard

3 days, I wish! Still absolutely nothing from them. As this was my main use of the two I have, looks like I’ll dig deeper into the apple ecosystem and get some HomePods

dbolst

I eventually got something back asking for serial numbers of my hardware.. which I have sent so they can ‘open a case’..

since then nothing again.

don’t know why this is so hard to get a straight answer..

if I can’t resolve this I’m doing to same, will be selling the google kit and getting Apple stuff

I submitted it when I posted that I did and didn’t get any error messages. I was able to access it fine. The only thing that isn’t working is Google, both the best mini and now seemingly your system

I’ve filled it in again. I hope that I get a better response than dbolst did. But I’m not holding my breathe

Any solutions yet? Just heard from kids that Apple Music didn’t work for a while now. When opening Google home, no option to add any music services

dbolst
Community Member

Still no solution, I’m getting the runaround on the support case which I opened.. I wait days for a response and then get

  • send feedback via the app
  • turn things off and on
  • iodate devices
  • send a screen shot of the ‘feedback’

all of which I have done, and none of it answers the question in any way.

im about to sell all my google devices and buy the Apple stuff, this is ridiculous..

It’s not just apple services which are missing, I can’t add Spotify, YouTube music or Apple Music .. all of which are on my device, and used to be available to connect..

funny thing is I can see YouTube and Spotify in the podcast section of google home…

I also have this exact issue only realised last week that apple music is no longer connected but also I am unable to add any services.

Same for me as well. Kids are losing their minds, while I spend hours uninstalling/re-installing, restarting, re-booting all to no avail.

Just get the following on the music screen - no option to add/change anything -

"The Assistant will use your default music provider when asked to play music. You can still play music using all other linked providers when specified.

Your music services

No default

User other accounts' preferences on shared devices"

Same here, in Australia is that makes a difference.

I am having the same issue.

Also in Australia.

No ability to add any music services using iOS. Have tried all of the above.

Had been working fine until suddenly it didn’t. Not a new speaker.

dbolst

That’s great if you’ve fixed it!

which language setting have you changed?  The phone, or the google home app?

I had a play with both, but couldn’t get it working

dbolst
Community Member

Have updated iOS and home app still no progress.

my case with the support team has been put on hold .. no idea what that means..

very close to buying an Apple speaker and just throwing this stuff away

dadvader

I think I have found the cause and solution.

I realised that I had recently changed the language setting to English (US) from English (Australian) when I updated to iOS 18.

Changing back to English (Aus) fixed the error and now shows the music services including Apple Music.

I have confirmed by changing back and forth between English (Australian) and English (US) that having the language set to English (US) causes the problem.

Therefore it seems to be an issue related to how Google Home behaves when the language region is not English Australia (I am located in Australia).

dbolst
Community Member

You are right!

no idea how you figured that out!!

iOS settings > general > language and region

from there I had English UK and English selected ..

removed English uk, and the services are back!!

Worked for me too. Thanks

I have tried this a few different times and it didn’t work for me.

Does anyone have a family set up with kids?

I know having content control settings has stuffed up Apple Music on google home before

dadvader

Yes mine has a family account

strangely the kids account seemed fine
