Not able to link nest audio to my account

Hi everyone, I’m unable to connect my newly purchased Nest Audio (bought in Germany). My Google account is set to India, and during the final step of setup I receive the message: “There was an error linking your account. Please try again.”

Hello @Rajeshtks,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you are having trouble setting up your newly purchased Nest Audio (bought in Germany) because you are receiving an error message that says, "There was an error linking your account. Please try again" during the final step of setup. Let me help you with this.

This specific error message—"There was an error linking your account"—is almost always related to a region or country mismatch between the device's expected operating region and the country set in your Google Account profile.

Step 1: Check Your Google Account Region

First, verify that your Google Account is set correctly for your current geographical location, as the Nest Audio might be detecting a regional IP difference.

  • On a computer or your phone's browser, go to your Google Account settings.
  • Navigate to People & Sharing (or Personal Info)——Contact Info——Country/Region.
  • Ensure your profile's country is accurately set to your current primary residence.

Step 2: Re-run Setup with Language Set to English (UK or US)

Sometimes the language setting interferes with the final server handshake.

  • Factory Reset the Nest Audio (if it's not currently ready for setup).
  • In your phone's Google Home app, tap your profile picture, then Assistant settings.
  • Go to Languages and ensure the primary language is set to English (United States) or English (United Kingdom).
  • Start the Nest Audio setup process again from the Google Home app.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Kevin
