My Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) stopped displaying the word when I asked it to spell. It does spell out the word but until this week it would also display the work on the screen.

I just tried this and get the same result. Our Nest Hubs no longer display the word being spelled. Instead, we get just a spoken result and the screen is temporarily dimmed.

Yes I am having the same issue as well I have three Google displays and all of them are not working they are spelling the words but not displaying it on the screen

This feature was working up until a few days ago.
I have two Google Hubs and when asked to spell a word, the display will spell out the word but will no longer display the word like before. There is a change in the screen, a faded gray graphic that covers the screen but it no longer displays how to sleep the word.
I have tried restarting the devices with no change. This seems to be a bug in an update, but I have no way to confirm that. I'm hoping this feature gets fixed, as I use this feature almost daily. Thank you.

It is NOT helpful for those of us who are better at learning visually rather than orally. Previously, I could just glance at the screen to see the correct spelling.

Same here. Any ideas. Was there a software change?

My guess is that it was a software change. This Reddit post says Google Nest ADDED the display of spelling results 3 years ago. Now they've removed it.

Hopefully they realize it and bring it back.

We are also experiencing this same issue on both of our Google Hub devices. I want to echo the groups concern that this is a very helpful feature and I hope it returns.

Still having issues here with the word not being displayed.
Currently on firmware version 10.20221207.2.109, Cast firmware 1.68.353511
Could be Google does a rolling update, @djfester can you check what version you are running?
You can get that information from the Google Home app - https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7365257?hl=en#zippy=%2Ccheck-the-firmware-version-of-yo...

I am having this same issue. Has anyone found a solution. This was one of the selling features of my display.

Same here. I thought my nest hub had failed. I found an Echo Show Eight on sale and purchased it.. a couple weeks later, i find this list of complaints.
This is what happened to mine. The pronunciation on the dictionary screens was missing phonetic symbols. The screen would fade and not display words while spelling. Naturally, i decided it had failed.
I only kept it because of curiosity's sake. I wondered if I could retrieve my receipt from Target and send it in for warranty repair. I also wondered if it would behave normally in cooler ambient temperature.
Regardless, I use it for school and needed a replacement immediately. Hence, the Echo Show Eight.
Now, can keep it inwait for an update or give it away to one without need for visual spelling or phonetic symbols in dictionary entries.
Thank you.

Today it seems to be working, I'm not sure what changed.
Currently running software version: 51.0.24.513642888
I'm not sure what the version was running before or if there was an update. Will report back if more issues continue, but I hope this is fixed. As this is a key feature I use daily on these devices.

I just tried it myself, and our Nest Hub is now spelling out the word on the screen again.
