Notifation sound on tasks, reminders. etc.

I bought the google nest hub 2nd generation and I was quite happy excited with it for the basic features of playing music, setting alarms and getting weather info etc.

but I want to know if it’s possible to make the nest hub make a sound and read out my tasks when they appear..

If it’s not possible then I don’t understand the decision behind that lack of feature choice.

there is even a step in the general morning routine that says “tell me about my tasks” and you can set and create tasks and it even shows up on “your evening” page.. but there seems to be no way to get it to make sounds.. you can set alarms but no title on the alarms.

also in the device settings it’s even possible to put it into do not disturb mode just like on the device and the description even says “Mute reminders, tasks, broadcast messages and other spoken notifications” so I don’t understand the lack of sound on a notification for tasks and reminders.

I see people talking about that it used to be able to chime and read out the notification but apparently not anymore..

can someone give me an answer to whether this is possible to set up and or why it’s not a basic feature if it’s not possible.

Thanks in advance 🙂

I couldn't get it to work as well as Alexa can with ironically the Google Calendar.

From a Google Calendar Task (not Event) Google speakers will only announce that there's a notification whereas Alexa tells you what the Google Calendar Event name is one or two times.

Hi @MrFrog,

Thanks for reaching out to this community! It sounds like you're expecting your Nest Hub (2nd gen) to make a sound and read out your tasks when they appear.

Regarding the 'Do Not Disturb' setting mentioning muted tasks, this refers to preventing any potential audible notifications for tasks if they were to exist, as well as other spoken notifications.

When it's time for the reminder, the display will play a sound, and Google Assistant will announce that you have a reminder.

In the display, the screen will dim, to hear the remined you can use one of these voice commands:

  • "Hey Google, what's up?"
  • "Hey Google, what are my notifications?"
  • "Hey Google, what are my reminders?"

After the Assistant reads the reminder, the reminder is marked as read.

@SmartHomeH-TAGS, thank you for sharing that information about this situation; it is helpful for everyone!

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,

Eduardo
