Say 'OK Google' to the speaker and my phone turns on!
Grrr.
What do I do to stop this?
I don't want to turn off on my phone.
Thanks.

Hi SmartMatrix,
If your phone and speaker are both nearby, your phone may wake up when hearing the "okay Google" wake phrase but your speaker should answer and the phone should go back to idle.
Is that what you are experiencing?
Here are some things you can check too: Google Home & phone respond to "Hey Google" - Android - Google Nest Help

I don't think you understand - or maybe I explained wrong.
I say 'OK Google' and they both wake, waiting for me to ask something.
What I want is JUST the speaker when I'm next to the speaker to wake.
When outside, I want the phone to wake.
So how do I best do this?

They both will wake if you are near both when the wake phrase is spoken. If you are away from the speaker the phone should only wake since the speaker would be away from listening distance. Is that not happening?

Hi everyone,
Thanks for posting in the Community.
I appreciate your help on answering this thread, @JillG.
If both phone and Google Home responds everytime you speak the hotword, you can try this steps:
Step 1: Update your Google app version
Step 2: Add the same account to both devices
Important: If the phone that responds isn't yours, then these steps won’t fix the issue.
If you have multiple Google Accounts, add the account you used to set up Google Home to your phone.
Let me know how it goes.

Princess

Thanks for the replies.
Maybe I didn't explain the problem well enough.
When near a speaker I say 'OK Google' - my phone and speaker BOTH wake up.
I ONLY want one of them to wake up.
I only want the speaker to wake.
Could I for example assign a different keyword for waking up?
Thanks.

Apologies, I didn't see the last reply.
My problem still stands.
I'm not sure why my problem isn't understood and why no one else in the world has experienced the problem?

Hi there,
Have you tried the steps from the previous thread? If yes, let's check on this:
Step 1: See which account you use on Google Home
Step 2: Add the account to your phone
Let me know how it goes.

I didn't see the last reply until just now.
I looked at the steps.
You guys still don't understand the problem. 😥
Am I the only person in the world to have this problem?
Let me try and describe again using different words...
- 2 devices, one a phone and one a speaker.
- When you say 'OK Google' they BOTH wake up.
- How do I stop BOTH waking up.
Can I for example have a different wakeup words for the speaker????
I have 2 Amazon speakers fairly close by. I have 2 different wake up phrases for the speakers - so they both don't wake up when spoken to. Can I have similar for Google devices??
I've been through the settings of the Google Home app - there's nothing there.
Am I just going mad or what? 🤦

Hi SmartMatrix,
Chiming in — we're sorry for the confusion. If you are near your Google Home device and phone, only Google Home should respond to "Hey Google". Both devices may wake up, but your phone should go back to sleep. While different wake up words for phone and Google Home devices are not supported we're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take this as feedback. You can send feedback by saying " Hey Google, send feedback ". Also, you can check out this link for more information. https://bit.ly/3NrUkeP

Thanks for the reply at least. I thought I was truly going mad with my problem.
The only thing is: am I the ONLY person in the whole entire world to have this problem?
I feel soo privileged.
It's sooo annoying. 😕
If there's other people with Android phones nearby, they're phones wake up as well 🤦

I've gone to the effort of filling in the form.
I get this error 'Refresh this page and try again. Sorry, there was a problem with the form.'
This is sooo painful.
I am left with the delight that I am the one and only person on the world to have faced this super rare problem. 🤷
