Older devices unable to connect to a 5GZ hidden network

All my devices had been working fine for years until the other day my older Google Mini, Google Home, and Chromecast audio dongles lost their connectivity to my 5GZ wifi hidden network. I unhid the network and my mini was then able to connect to the network, but as soon as I hid the network again it lost its connection. To get it working I needed to reset it to factory defaults then connect it to the 2.5GZ channel. This procedure also worked for the other devices. The only device that stayed working on the 5GZ hidden network was a recently purchased Nest speaker. Was this due to an update to the older devices?

Hi @rctal,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear your Google Nest devices keep disconnecting from your hidden network. Don't worry, I'm here to help. To better assist you, please confirm the following:

  • Have you made any changes to your hidden network?
  • Did your Nest devices previously work properly on the hidden network?
  • How far are your Nest devices from your router?

Just for your information you can connect your device to a hidden, but they may not work fine. For reference, check out the following article: Connect Nest products to a hidden Wi-Fi network

Please let me know the answers to these questions, and I'll be happy to help you further.

Sincerely,
Jonathan
