Speaker group that has been unchanged for two+ years all of a sudden doesn't work. What the goddamn **bleep** google? Pay **bleep**ing Sonos what you owe them

We don't use speaker groups, but does this Google Nest blog post explain it?

Hey nicholaaaas,
I am sorry for any frustrations that you are having. I know having your speaker group not work is not an ideal situation. Speaker groups containing non-Google speakers or Cast-based devices may not work properly in speaker groups if they don’t receive a software update. Was the link posted above useful in helping answer your question?
