Philips smart tv won't let me cast from my android

tomukio

We recently bought a Philips smart tv with Chromecast built in and it won't let me cast from my phone. I'm sure both my phone and the tv are connected to the same wifi. I tried to set it up with Google home and the tv isn't detected by the app. Does someone have the same problem or know how to solve this issue?

Thanks

Yes I'm having same problem only difference is my Phillips tv is hooked up with a Ethernet cord I'm not sure if that is reason I can't connect but if I tried to hook up to my wifi Phillips tv just freezes up on searching for wifi screen and never seems to be able to connect to my wifi . I have a Chromecast dongle in bedroom it works great Everytime but Phillips refuses to hook up it's very frustrating

Guess it's a not so smart Tv lol

Hey there tomukio,

I'm sorry about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that casting issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • What version of Google Home are you using?
  • Do you have a dual-band router? (2.4GHz and 5GHz)
  • Are you able to cast from another device, such as a laptop or tablet?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

In the meantime, I would check out this article on common Chromecast connection issues, as it has a good checklist of steps to help fix a lot of casting problems.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,

Sorry for the slow reply. I'm still having problems, but it seems that the issue is with particular apps, like Netflix. I can cast from my phone to Spotify and Youtube for example, but when I try to use it to cast to Netflix it says I need to be connected with the same account (I'm sharing the apartment with more people and I have my own account).

The answers to your questions:

  • The version that I was using is one before 2.44.1.8
  • I think we do have a double-band router, could this be the issue?
  • I haven't tried with another device, but my flatmate was trying to setup the built-in chromecast from her phone as well.
  • I don't know if the troubleshooting on the link applies to me, is it possible to reset the built-in chromecast of a smart tv?

Thanks for your help

No problem at all, thank you for the response! Let me just ask you a couple of more questions if you don't mind:

  • Does the issue occur during setup or after setup is complete?
  • What's the distance between the router and the Chromecast device?
  • What messages does the TV display? Does it display Set me up?

Depending on whether the built-in Chromecast is set up or not could point to different issues. As for the dual-band router, just make sure that all the devices relating to the Chromecast are on the same network band, either 2.4GHz or 5GHz in your case. Also, you must disable Access Point (AP) isolation on the router as well. Finally, if there are a lot of devices on one band, try connecting devices that aren't related to the Chromecast on another band to reduce network congestion.

I look forward to your response!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi again,

Answers:

  • after the setup is complete
  • 3 meters or so
  • It doesn't display set me up, the tv seems to be properly setup. I'm starting to suspect that the issue might not be the built-in chromecast, though, I still find a bit odd that google home cannot setup the display, unless it can only be done on the tv.

Thanks for the help!

Of course! You should be able to set up the built-in Chromecast via the Google Home app, but since built-in Chromecast is open-source software, it's a possibility it may be a little different.

If you are able to, you will need to enable UPnP in your router settings. UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), also known as multicast, allows for the discovery of UPnP enabled devices on the same Wi-Fi network.

Just out of curiosity, are you able to cast to the Chromecast from another device, such as a computer or tablet?

Best regards,

Jeran
