Phone responding with Google voice

We have multiple nest minis and a Google audio in the house. Everything has been working fine for a while. There have been no changes other than I've recently added my wife to my Google family group and Google Home.

Now my phone responds at the same time as whatever speaker is in the room. I will give a command or ask a question then the speaker and my phone will both respond. My wife's phone does not do the same thing. Only the speaker responds to her requests. The speakers are connected to my account as the main account.

Make sure you have setup voice match on both of your accounts and for all the separate Google Home devices. You have to opt your voice match for each one. Also helps to turn the "Hey Google" off on your phone.

that doesn't help because if i want to use my phone's Assistant outside, i have to turn it back on whenever i leave home. same if i want to call on the Assistant in a room in the house that doesn't have a Nest device.

Update: I had already done voice match on both accounts (not sure how you do it on every device). As of today only the speakers respond with no changes done whatsoever.

Ah, the mysteries of Google features.

same here. not sure why, when i was on the latest Search app, Google Home app, and the firmware on Google Home. our overlords be mysterious in their whims and fancies.

i continue to have this problem, especially with the Pixel 6 on SQ1D.220105.007. surprisingly, my Oppo CPH2095 behaves nicely enough with the Home, shutting up when Home wakes up, and showing, "Responding on another device" before going back to sleep.

Yes y realized the only reason one plus 8 want responding was because I had the phone volume down. This actually continues to happen for me which makes commands like create a timer a cluster. My wife's Nexus doesn't have this issue.

I wish that you could stand on different parts of the house and give a command to tell Google to ask "which speaker did you expect to respond". They used to ask sometimes but I can't initiate the question.
