Playing BBC Radio on Home Hub

I have always been able to play BBC radio stations on my Home Hub by asking 'play radio 4', but today it just responds 'i can't do that on here'. What has changed?

Is there any news at all about the lack of BBC radio stations on the home hub ? It’s gone silent !

Could this be anything to do with the BBC ceasing to  use the Shoutcast protocol for audio streaming by May 2023 which they announced in 2022 and adviced device manufacturers of? They will instead us HLS and DASH: do Google Home speakers support these protocols?

Whatever the cause is it is very annoying to have a service that has worked OK for years suddenly break.

My devices have started that too, just over the last few days, was OK before.  should I try a factory reset?

Unofficial reply as I doubt you'll get one from Google.

I've tried resets and changes to hub and phone settings with no joy.

Think you've just got to sit tight and hope they sort it out, not that I know who they are.

OK. I have too - all useless, and it's been 5 days now. Totally wasted my money buying two Google Nest hubs, both in the last 6 months.

Same issue , tried all the resets no better, it’s our main reason to have the Google system so feeling badly let down by this error , ps my sons set up has also stopped working, would love to know if it’s Google or the Bbc. Thankyou

Hi,

just had the internet drop but after it came back nest is not playing radio. Asking for 5 live,  radio 6 etc. and message is can’t do that here. Before it would just play through BBC Sounds, now nothing. 

Any help appreciated.

Same for us.  We listen to Radio 4 more or less continually.  It is very annoying that all BBC programmes are now unavailable on the Nest/Hub/Google  system.

Hi folks,

This is not the experience we want you to have, let me help you. A few questions: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? Is the issue happening on all your Nest speakers?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first: 

1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Once done, play radio and tell me which stations are working and which are not. Also, try other music services like YouTube if it plays.

I am using a mini nest and a lenovo clock speaker. Neither is working and the resets don't work. The speakers still play Spotify and other radio stations such as classic fm but no bbc radio programmes. Given that this has happened to a group of us and it would appear that it went back on again for us all and then went back off again for us all this would suggest some problem with Google programming.

Had the following email reply from BBC, looks like issue is Google, so how about an update Google!

We have raised this with Google who are now investigating.

Mine stopped playing BBC radio 2 on April 8th. However, a friend who lives in Surrey has the same model Google Home Mini and hers is working fine, playing all BBC radio stations on command!

Has the “play Radio 2” from 6 days ago been resolved, as my Google nest has just stopped playing Radio 2 since 10th April
