I have always been able to play BBC radio stations on my Home Hub by asking 'play radio 4', but today it just responds 'i can't do that on here'. What has changed?

Hey everyone,

I have some great news to share! This issue on BBC Radio should now be resolved. You can now go back to listening to your favorite BBC station on your speakers/display as normal. If for some reason you’re still experiencing problems, please try rebooting your devices to refresh the settings.

Cheers,

Muddi

They're not all working fine. Every day some additional commercial radio stations are also stopping working.

I can't get PlanetRadio to work either

George10 Update on no BBC on Nest mini..Tried deleting it then re-installing, still doesn't work even if I say "Open BBC sounds" but it does play LBC through Global player even though I don't tell it to "Open Global player"...

I don't seem to get this problem with our Alexas...YET!!! Sell these devices and buy Amazon Alexas..

I have the same problem. It's been like that for two or three days. I can play radio stations from other sources without any problem. It's extremely frustrating. I can stream from the BBC sounds app, but I cannot select the radio stations with voice commands.

Update, on their website BBC informs they are aware of the issue and it's investigating..

Hi @Wolsey1904

Looks to be a known issue and BBC is aware.

Hoping that a quick resolve gets push out for BBC listeners.

I normally just say hey, Google play BBC Radio 4 and it does it. Now it replies “I can’t do that here, but you can ask me to play it on one of your other devices“. Is this a rights issue? I already tried, turning it off and on again and setting it all up again from scratch.

Normally my speaker says "playing BBC 6 music on the BBC". In the kast week it has switched to playing frome TuneIn instead. This is without me asking. Since moving to TuneIn I have received on message that streaming the BBC may not be possible from mid 2023 & I should contact the device manufacturer. I believe the BBC  are phasing out one sort of technology in favour of concentrating on another.

Same for me. No problems with Alexa. Very frustrating

I'm here looking for support with the exact same issue.

Even when I say "ask BBC Sounds to play 6 music", TuneIn is used.

I have exactly the same issue as NormanM. The only way I have been able to get round it is to cast from BBCSounds which isn’t ideal

Me too. It’s been happening since last week. I did go away for 2 days and when I came home it worked for 24 hours and then happened all over again! I’ve done all the usual stuff and reset all 3 speakers from scratch. Still doesn’t work. Nothing on the BBC website about any specific smart speaker issues.

Same here too, it stopped then started playing BBC radio a few days ago but has now stopped again. Is it the BBC causing it top happen? My internet radios all have a message from the BBC saying that they will be turning off all their stations in Mid Year. Surely Google should intervene and lean on the BBC to turn on their programmes again?

This just been put up on the BBC Sounds Help page. Hope it gets fixed soon

So it is the BBC!

Looks like it. The information wasn't  there when I last looked a couple of days ago. I am just about to send BBC Sounds an email through the Help page. It may prioritise a fix if others did the same.

Exactly my problem and Google help has been no help

Probably because it’s a BBC issue! Raise a issue with BBC Sounds through the Help function if you would like them know you need a fix prioritised

I m having the same problem with the local radio station here.  Its not BBC, so i dont think its just a BBC issue.  My station is 3AW Melbourne.  I tried other local radios stations and same problem even though they are FM stations.  I did however get it to play one  FM station and it said it was through Tune In.  ??   I really dont think I want Google Home speakers if I cant listen to my favourite radio stations. Not Happy Jan.

I think it may be the stations linked to Radio App including 3aw as none of those seem to be working with the Google speaker.   I Heart Radio stations are fine and  Tune In stations are working too.

Something has changed. There is certainly a problem between Google/BBC. You can podcast programs through BBC Sounds, but what I really wanted is to stream live BBC Radio stations rather than programs. Google support are working on it. Have contacted BBC Support, too. Both companies are aware of the problem. It is just the willingness to sort it out. Something else is going on for sure. Maybe a paid service is coming up and they are preparing for it.  Ut you can certainly cast BBC Radio stations using the BBC Sounds app. What you can't do is say: 'OK Google play BBC Radio 2' as Google smart speaker won't do it as it used to a week ago for me

'Preparing for a paid service' I already pay an annual BBC license. How much money do they think state pensioners have to pay for an extra fee to listen to the British Brainwashing Companies radio stations?

SM56

Ha! Yes, me too the same as you! Begs belief how these two companies have cooked things up. I think we are going though a wind of change.... we'll see

I bought my Google nest speakers because the BBC announced they were turning off my internet radios in the middle of the year. This whole thing is a farce!

Mine stopped 5 days ago. Something odd is happening. My friend in Norway hasn't got this issue. Alexa works fine for me, so can't understand what is going one. Have asked Google support

I responded in another thread with the same issue.
The page I went to on the BBC said you just say OK Google, so obviously has not been updated with this issue, so thanks for that. However Alexa on my phone can also no play BBC Radio 2

SM56

Google speaker still doesn't play BBC Radio as you say. And Alexa does for sure. The difference is that Amazon Alexa launches BBC Sounds automatically and plays the radio fine and that's what Google mini doesn't do. Happy to post videos on this. The fact of the matter is that Google smart speaker USED to be able to do it and now it doesn't. Have bee  onto Google Support and via the Google Home App they ask me to go to Media tab and then access the Radio tab, which doesn't exist!

I do not think this is a google problem this time, as Alexa on a phone (for me at least, does not work)
Plus somone posted a pic from the BBC site which said they were aware of the problem?

Ok we are talking cross purposes here. My references are on Alexa dot and Google mini; the two smart speakers and not the phone apps. I don't use my phone to listen to BBC Radio, so I can't comment.

Ok, I just use the Alexa on my phone to test against the google minis. EG my minis have great difficulty understanding OFF and ON a lot of the time. Alexa on the phone does not.

This morning I asked the bedroom mini and got a different response ' I am sorry I cannot do that yet'. which was the response when it told me I could not play the station but I could ask to stream on another device. When I asked for a different min, I got that response.
I also asked to play BBC radio2 on tunein and it told me it could not find that station.

Strangely enough, I said Good Morning to the bedroom mini this morning and it quite happliy played BBC News?

Yup! But not the live news - a bulletin from a hour or two ago if I’m not mistaken

Always been that way AFAIK?
Always the last news bulletin?
