Plex Support

When is google going to start playing nice with Plex Media Server. My understanding is that Google is the bottleneck for that integration. I have a house full of Google devices, but I may have to go back to Alexa just because of this one very important feature. Plex has a massive and tech savvy following. Please get this worked out.

Looking for the same answer. Funny though, I'm about done with Alexa and the frequent "By the Way", and recent (last 3 months) of not understanding some commands to control lights. We got 2 Lenovo smart clocks with google assistant in part because we needed new alarm clocks, and in part to test out Google Assistant. I've found Google assistant to be a huge improvement over Alexa to get answers and to control my SmartThings devices.

However, we do not subscribe to music, we buy our music. So, on Alexa I can stream what we own. I cannot find this option (for free) with Google. However, I also have a Plex server in my house, and that would solve the problem. Or if Google allowed me to stream my uploaded music. This alone is keeping me from dumping Alexa. If google fixes this, we are moving over and selling our 7+ alexa devices.

Hey there,

So sorry for the delayed response on this. I'm also sorry to hear about the troubles you're having in regards to the Plex media server, I'm sure it can be frustrating but I'm happy to help.

While this is not an officially supported option for the devices, we are happy to take this feedback and send it to the appropriate team to have them investigate further and to see if this is something that we can look into applying later on in the future. A possible workaround you can try is casting from the Plex app/platform to your speakers. Please let me know if you have any success doing that.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

Hi Garrett,

Thanks for the reply. Casting is not a real option and really defeats the purpose of the "voice" assistant. Alexa has this integration and Google doesn't. I sold my Alexa/Ring devices and went all in on dozens of Google/Nest devices and now I am regretting it.

You might as well. I am trashing all 12 of my Google devices and going back to Amazon.

We all know about 'casting'. That is not a work around. One reason one gets a voice assistant is to tell it to play music. Casting defeats all this. And if that is the best you got, then no point in having a voice assistant, I could just play my music on a Bluetooth speaker just as easily.

The point of bringing this up is if you want to WIN OVER Alexa users, you should have features that are as good or better. But right now, seems to be lacking. I am impressed with Google Assistant as far as speech recognition goes and my integration of SmartThings, much better than Alexa. But the music area is severely lacking.
