Podcast isnt available on this device for kids

MDLairdJr
Community Member

When I try to play certain podcasts, I get a response that says, "That podcast isnt available on this device for kids or for adults who haven't set up voice match".  Am i actually required to set up voice match just to listen to a podcast?

Hi MDLairdJr,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Listening to podcasts doesn't require a voice match unless there are other users/accounts linked to your Google Nest speakers. Could you tell us how many accounts are linked to your device? Also, does it happen when you try to use ask for a different podcast title or show?

Let's go ahead and try some of the commands here: https://goo.gle/3VKhuSA

Let me know if it works.

Best,
Princess

Hi Princess -

Thanks for your response.  There is only one account linked to my Google Nest speaker(s).  This issue only occurs for certain podcasts.  I am able to play others with no problem at all.

For example, if I try some of the commands you listed:

"Listen to Oral History of The Office on Spotify"
"Play This American Life on Google Podcasts"

Those podcasts play immediately.  However if I say, "Play the Haunted Objects Podcast", I get a respons that says, "That podcast isn't available on this device for kids or for adults who haven't set up voice match".  I searched Google Podcasts and found that particular podcast listed, so I believe it is available.  However my Google Nest speaker won't play it.

Thanks for your help.

Hi there,

Thanks for trying the steps. Let's make sure that the Personal Results is turned on:

Set up personal results in your home

Important: If you have personal results and Voice Match turned on and then later turn off Voice Match, personal results also turns off automatically. You can always turn personal results back on without Voice Match.

When you set up personal results in your home, you turn it on for all devices in your home and can choose to turn it on automatically for any new devices. You can turn off personal results for a specific device at any time.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home and then Settings Settings.
  3. Under “Features,” tap Google Assistant and then Personal results.
  4. Edit settings for the devices in your home.

Tip: You can also set up personal results when you set up Voice Match.

Turn off personal results in your home

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home and then Settings Settings.
  3. Under “Features,” tap Google Assistant and then Personal results.
  4. Tap Turn off personal results in this home.

Turn personal results on or off for a device

Important: Before you can turn on personal results for a device, you must turn on personal results for the home.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home and then Settings Settings.
  3. Under “Features,” tap Google Assistant and then Personal results.
  4. Tap the name of your device.
    • To turn on personal results: Check the box next to the device name.
    • To turn off personal results: Uncheck the box next to the device name.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

Hi Princesss -

I have turned on Personal Results for the Home as well as all devices.  I am still experiencing the same issue.

Hi MDLairdJr,

Apologies for the delay and thank you for doing the provided steps. How about if we re-train your voice to get this going. Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Home and then Settings and then Google Assistant and then Voice Match and then Other devices.
    • If you have more than one home, tap the home you want to add Voice Match to.
  3. Tap Get started and then follow the in-app steps.
    • Note: To turn on Voice Match automatically for new devices in the same home, turn on “Automatically enable on future devices.”

Important: These steps won't work with a Google Workspace account. Learn how to use a Google Workspace account on a device.

For more information about "Voice Match", see this guide. You can also remove your voice from your devices by following the steps here.

Best regards,

Dan

Hi Dan -

Thanks for getting back to me.  This goes back to my original question of whether voice match was required to listen to podcasts.  I believe I figured out what is happening.  I noticed that each of the podcasts that won't play for me have an "E" marking on the Google Podcasts page.  I understand this denotes an "explicit" rating, which may explain why I am having trouble playing them.  Other than setting up voice match, is there a way I can let Google know that I want to be able to play these podcasts?

Thanks!

I'm also having the same issue! Super frustrating. I have been using Google home products since their inception and recently purchased the new nest mini. I do not have this issue on the older devices, just this new one. Super frustrating! I do not want to have to do a voice match. Why must things change?

I'm curious about whether the podcast(s) you're having this issue with also have an "E" marking on the Google Podcasts page.  Do you have the issue with ALL podcasts?  Or only some?

Hi folks,

Sorry for the delays. To confirm, are you having the same issues playing those Podcasts on the app itself? It looks like explicit podcasts are being filtered by Google Podcasts itself, especially if those episodes or podcasts violate the podcasts policies. Visit this link for more information.

Cheers,

Muddi

Not having any issues in the Google podcast app itself. Only with the mini speaker and only the new nest version. The old Google speaker plays them without any issues

I have the exact same issue as stated by the original poster. The problem is that because I want to play a Swedish podcast the voice recognition won't be able to interpret what I say properly. So I will have to type it, and then get the very same issue.

Is it not possible to enable E rated content without using the voice?
