Marios

Hey so I just boughta nest mini but when I ask for a podcast it says that it's not available or can't be found and can't be played  right now. I make sure I chose Google podcast as my default and even tried Spotify. Same thing any thoughts??

I’ve got exactly the same issue. Tested and toggled a numerous way of settings and workarounds that possibly accord the problem, but nothing seems to work.
Frustrating!

Hello Marios and Farmor_Bamse,

Thank you for reaching out. I am sorry to hear that you are both encountering issues with listen to your podcasts. I would be more than happy to help look into this situation. First, I have some questions.

  • Is this a new issue? Was your device able to play podcasts before?
  • Are you logged into the media/apps where you listen to your podcasts? Are they linked in your Google Home app?
  • What voice commands are you using? Are you using the same layout as the examples below?
    • Example: "Listen to Oral History of The Office on Spotify"
"Play This American Life on Google Podcasts"
  • Is this happening with all podcast channels? Or just one?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

I look forward to your reply back. Let's get this issue resolved!

Hello frances,

I'm having the exact same issue and it's been happening since around when people started reporting it.

I'll answer your questions:

  • Yes, I have noticed this within the last month or two and yes I was able to listen to podcasts before.
  • I am logged in to Spotify and it is linked. Tested 100% because I can play music, but as soon as I switch to a podcast it times out.
  • The only voice command I use is "Play spotify" when I have the podcast queued on another device. Other than that, I find the episode in Spotify on my phone or computer and try to connect to my Nest Mini and/or my Nest Hub.
  • All podcasts.
  • As mentioned above - voice commands, casting from phone, casting from PC. I have played music while connected and queued the podcast episode after the music. I have played music and manually switched to the podcast. Everything fails.

Was anyone able to figure this out? Ha Ing the same issue and purchased the next for the very reason to listen to podcasts with it.

Hey, I got the same issue here. My google nest mini is the new one. I couldn’t play the podcast either. May I know is there any solution for it?

Hey all,

Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help? If you are unable to play a podcast, there is a chance you may need to check your settings. I would also recommend checking the parental settings, as this could also cause the device not to search for certain content. Please let me know if you have any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best regards,
Jake

Yes, I still cannot play any podcast while connected to my Nest or HUB. What settings do you suggest I look at? "Allow Explicit Content" is on and I have no issue seeing or listening to any podcasts on my phone, but they stop when I connect to HUB or Nest.

Hi Jake,

I dunno why I still cannot play podcast with a specific episode. Usually, I would say “Play XXX’s podcast”. Then, google nest would reply      it doesn’t understand what did I said.
Please let me know is there anyway to play. Thanks

Hey all,

Sorry again for the late reply. I wanted to check back in with you, and ensure the device is working as intended. Do you mind me asking if you have added a podcast account to the Home app?

Make sure the mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as the speaker or display.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Add then Podcasts.
  3. Select the preferred podcast provider, and sign in to the podcast account.

Once signed in, you should be able to manage, and remove any podcast. Please let me know if that helped.

Best regards,

Jake

Hello Jake,

All devices are connected to the same wifi and I have indeed added podcasts to Google Home. As I stated before, this has worked previously, but hasn't for the last long while.

You take months to respond and close the thread in 24 hours when I don't have a chance to test because I'm not at my house?

As to the actual issue, yes I am still having the exact same issue and nothing has changed.

When I ask mini to play a podcast it replies “That podcast isn’t available for kids or adults that haven’t set up voice match.” I used to be able to play podcasts without voice match and I don’t want to do voice match.

Keeping this thread alive to say i’m having this issue too! It won’t work for me in my good morning routine anymore which is so frustrating because thats primarily what i use it for.

Having the same issue! Except mine doesn't usually say that when I ask the speaker to play something, it's been doing it with my routine where I've typed in the podcast I want to listen to. Gigantic pain in the ass, the routines (and speakers in general) are supposed to be more convenient not less!! 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

Hi Ssaammmmmlks,

Thanks for letting us know. Let me give you this link to add and choose a podcast as default.

Also, if needed be, click this link to factory reset your Google Home/Nest devices to revert it back to its default and original settings. Set them back up.

I'll be waiting for the good news!

Hi Infrantic,

Thanks for getting back to us. Can you confirm if you're already done with resetting your Google Nest speakers? Also, what country are you located at?

Hi there,

We just want to check if you have seen our response posted above. Let us know if you have additional questions, otherwise we'll be locking the thread.

Best,

Princess

Nothing that has been suggested works. I have reset my home, re-set up voice match, turned off the parental controls, and entered the name of the podcast I want played manually in “routines.” It still says “That podcast isn’t available for kids or adults that haven’t set up voice match.”

Please do not lock this thread until someone from the Google team confirms they have figured out a solution or released some kind of update with a patch. Its pretty clear that this is a software issue and not a settings issue.

This is what I use my home for, and without this function its essentially a paperweight.

Hi Lolcuuute,

Thanks for the additional info. Can you list down all the podcast you're trying to use as well as which of them are working. We'd like to take a closer look into this by trying the commands that you have tried.

Best,

Princess

The only podcast that HAS worked was “Up Next”

I’ve tried:

  • today, explained
  • h3 podcast
  • Radiolab
  • hidden brain

None of which have worked.

Honestly didn't do anything. Just tried again today and it worked, I figured Google had fixed something on their end.

My issue has been resolved and I am able to play podcasts again.
