Hi there, I've recently setup a new Google Nest Hub.
Whenever casting to the Nest Hub (I have tried casting from different iOS and Android apps including Disney+ and YouTube), every 5 minutes or so, the display keeps flipping back to the home screen (ie. Google Photos gallery) with no way to get back to the video although the sound continues. So the only way is to stop casting altogether and then restarting it. But then the cycle starts over again after a few minutes.
I've looked around numerous forums and was advised to check the casting app's background usage options to ensure that background usage has not been restricted. And the casting device and the Nest Hub are definitely on the same wifi network (as i only have one network setup).
The Nest Hub is on firmware 24.20241009.103.1900601, and cast firmware 3.76.448685.
Any assistance would be appreciated, as the video Chromecast features are one of the primary reasons I purchased the device, and so if it doesn't work properly, then I have little use for the unit.
Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Jonathan,
#1 - Yes, the problem appears to only happen when casting
#2 - At home, I'm always connected via wi-fi. But yes, my mobile data would be on as well.
#3 - Unfortunately, I don't know any other troubleshooting steps I can take.
The one thing I have noticed to make the video keep playing, is by poking the screen every 3-4 minutes to show that I'm still there. But as you can imagine, to have to remember to poke the screen every 3 minutes is less than ideal.
I have checked to make sure the 'Screen Timeout' setting (ie. Turn off screen after 5 minutes of inactivity) is turned off, which it is. The 'Quick Gestures' setting is also turned off.
Thanks.

Hi again,
So interestingly enough, I tried one more step last evening that appears to have resolved the problem.
I generally do not use the "Hey Google" functions and therefore, I had turned off the microphone when setting up the Nest Hub device. So last night, I wondered whether that might make a difference and turned the mic back on - and voila, the casting appears to work properly now!
So I'm guessing maybe it uses the mic to detect an ongoing presence.
Thanks for your help! Take care.
