RadioApp no loading on Google Nest Hub Max

SteveCairns
Community Member

RadioApp will not load on my Nest Hub Max. Other nest devices in the same household are fine.
Has been working fine, but stopped within the last week or so. Responds to my voice command "Play 3AW' but then the loading process freezes. Other radio services seem fine (iHeartradio) works on the Hub max, but RadioApp does not.

Contacted Google support via email ... the suggested the usual reboot and update solutions ... no change. Opened a chat to Google support, nothing additional to help, but they did suggest to open a Feedback on the issue through the Google home app. When enough people report the same issue, it gets the attention of the next level support people, who should be able to resolve the issue.

** UPDATE **
This is a Google issue ... probably a bug in a recent firmware upgrade that you have no control over.
If you are on firmware level 26.20250116.103.2201 you will probably have the problem.
It is a worldwide issue for Nest Hub devices. Google are aware and some users in the UK have recently reported their problem has been fixed. Hopefully just a matter of time before they roll the fix out to us in Australia ... keep checking.

Also have the same issue, Radio App is the best free Australian Radio App & suddenly it's stopped working & now wants me to pay for Spotify or IHeart subscriptions to be able to play it on both my Home hubs, not happy Jan 🤔

Hi Steve, I have the exact same issues as you. I am definitely not a tech head. I'm writing as you suggested for people to report the same issue, it gets the attention of the next level support people, who should be able to resolve the issue.

Joe

Hello Joe.

Also see my temporary workaround just above ...

I started having the same problem yesterday and again today on my Google home display. Usually listen to Blender Beats on radio app. Google goes to play radioapp then freezes and goes to normal display.  Google please fix this, as i have followed all the trouble shooting and still not working.

I have the same issue here. My two older Google screens, Nest Hub Max and Nest Hub won't play the radio app, but my newer Nest Hub does. The two older ones are about five years old, and the newer one is about three years old.

They all still play iHeartRadio with no problems, just not the radio app.

If it appears to get stuck on the loading screen.

I get no stations from anywhere and my hub is 2 years old

Same here 😞

Same. Home display won’t play radio but other Google speakers will… Casting from the those to home display is the only way I’ve been able to get it to work!

Yep, exact same problem here. Randomly stopped working Easter Friday. All other devices working fine.

One work around below seems to be to state via tune in. Looks like the issue may be with global player in UK. So stating "ok Google play smooth radio via tune in" works for me on screen devices. 👍🏻

Same here. Works fine on my Mini's, but not the hubs with screens.

Frankly, the whole ecosystem seems to be in decline. It no longer hears with the same accuracy, and has gone back to frequent 'ooops, something went wrong' responsesand lockups.

While it's understandable that things sometimes go wrong it takes them so long each time something happens to get on top of it.

WHY HAS THIS HOME HUB SUDDENLY STOPPED PLAYING GLOBAL PLAYER MUSIC

why has my home hub stopprd playing Global Player MUSIC

This has been going on now since around April 18th. Likely cause is a firmware update that Google have pushed out around that date. If you read other posts in the thread, you will see it is mostly on devices with screens, and there are workarounds that I and others have posted. This is not a fix, and some of us that have actually talked to Google support have been advised to raise feedback directly through the Google Home App or through the device that is having the issue. The more of us that do that , the more diagnostics they get , and hopefully the more weight this issue might get.

Thanks Steve

The work around does the trick for now.

Exactly the same here, a couple of days ago my Nest dis play stopped streaming and Rayo or Global Player stations but will stream BBC stations. Asking to play Greatest Hits, Smooth, Heart etc on TuneIn works just fine.
So come on Google sort this problem out as it’s clearly your issue!!!!

Ive just chatted with Google support and it’s a known issue. They said this:-

Thank you for the information. I just want to inform you that there are issues with streaming several radio stations like Rayo and Global Player for now. To help our higher technical team thoroughly investigate this specific issue, could you please send feedback directly through the Google Home app? This will provide them with valuable diagnostic information that can help us identify the root cause and work towards an accurate resolution as quickly as possible. Your feedback is crucial in helping us improve the performance of streaming radio stations into different Google displays or speakers. 🤷‍♂️

I am having the same problem in London UK. Not only will my Google Home Hub not play any radio stations, it also won't let me cast any to it either, & if I ask it to play one of my playlists, it will only play a couple of the songs & will just cycle through the same ones. Anyone know how to fix it bar launching the thing out of the window?

This is also happening to me

Try saying the “OK Google play (the radio station name) on TuneIn”

Thanks IanR55 this worked for me and got my station back on this am!

Just tried this "Hey Google play FiveAA on TuneIn" ... and it looked hopeful, as I got a TuneIn logo and welcome to TuneIn, but then still got no radio station played .. so the suggestion by IanR55 did not work for me.

As a reminder to submit feedback, on your device do “Hey Google, send feedback” and then give it a brief description of what's wrong (it'll also do a screenshot for you) and then send the feedback.

Hopefully with enough of us doing this, they'll get the info they need to get this fixed sooner than later

LBC first stopped working via Global Player. A day later it also stopped working via TuneIn. 2 x Nest Hub both the same. Reset and reinstall does not resolve problem.

Global player and Rayo just hang won't play any station, TuneIn still works but you have to say stream on TuneIn or it diverts to global player and freezes again! Is Google fixing this a priority ??

KenGC

I can say just "play LBC" and it defaults to trying Global Player. I also try "play LBC from TuneIn" neither work. They say they are connecting but don't.

Google support told ne that they dispd an update about 2weejs ago. Think its 9 media (2GB in Sydney stopped playing). Google nest will play ABC radio.
My Levino nest will play 2GB. They afe suggesting its because they are still using an old platform.
Have rung 9Nedia twice and no reply. . Seems a blame game.

It happens to me in Spain

SteveCairns workaround to use RadioApp from a phone (at least for us in Australia), is working well.

Which left me wondering what the issue could be. Given ABC works I wonder if it's to do with RadioApp wanting to play adds before the stream? There doesn't seem to be any adds played before streaming ABC.

Good observation JasonC. Any Australian Broadcast Corp station works with no issues. But mainstream radio stations it doesn’t work which does have an Ad before the radio stream starts.

But only on Google Nest Hub Max. I had no issues streaming any radio station to a Google Home Hub or mini.

I would have thought Google would have a fix by now as it appears to be a Global issue on Nest Max Hubs based on the feedback in this forum 🤷‍

My thoughts exactly, surely Google has a fix ready to go!

This weekend my Nest Hubs stopped streaming, which was my earlier workaround, stream on them and then select the Hub Max. But they stopped, perhaps yours missed the update and kept working! Well done!! 😀

Hi Jason. Streaming from RadioApp from iphone is still working.

Funny I have had same prob when I ask for 2gb radio to stream it stopped a week ago as well. Could it be the 2gb App?

Mine stopped good Friday all was ok until then. I am casting from my phone at the moment but thinking of getting and Alexa

We need to bombard 3aw and 2gb as they dont seem to care we cant listen in our usual way- if at all

As this has been going on for several weeks now, its obvious they are involved in the blame game at the moment rather than trying to fix the actual problem. I've looged feedback with diagnostics, but it's doubtful that they'll do anything with it.

I am in Australia I have done  exactly the same things as you still not working on the hub but working on all other speakers on my network

I’m in Victoria Australia. Came home and exactly what’s been described has occurred. Can’t play anything using RadioApp on the nest yet the mini plays fine. Have deleted the app and set it up again, factory reset the nest, all to no avail. Clearly it’s a Google/RadioApp issue?
