Reminders at certain timers without requesting them

Toddandersonmam

Okay, so I have 2 children with differing abilities.  I have always been home to prompt them for certain things.  As I'm looking at going either back to school or back to work, I'm wondering if there is a way to set up reminders from their calendar to prompt them for certain tasks.  Examples are that my youngest has SEVERE time blindness with his ADHD to the point that he will forget to eat.  Is there a way to set this up on his calendar so that his mini will prompt him at a certain time for this if we put something like lunch on his calendar?  He will not remember to ask Google what reminders he has.  He also will not think about what time it is as he gets lost in screens.  My oldest is also severely prompt dependent for tasks as well.  I would also like to have it prompt them before their therapies that are already on their calendar.

Hello Toddandersonmam,

Great question! I recommend using a customized routine and adding an action to broadcast any message you want, such as reminding your youngest child to eat. To learn more, please visit this link or follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Automatons > Add > Personal.
  3. To name your Routine, tap Untitled. If you add a voice starter before you name your Routine, the voice starter becomes the name.
  4. Add the starters and actions you want. Note: Make sure to set a time on when you want your routine to activate.
  5. On actions, add "Broadcast, <name of your child> eat your breakfast/lunch/dinner now.
  6. Tap Save.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Muddi

Next question. Is there a way to do this where it will search their calendars say every 15 min and notify them on the speaker if there is something on their calendar? Otherwise I will have to put their calendar into a routine regularly because of changes.

Hey there,

You may create a sequence of scheduled personal routines on their account. Same steps as what Muddi has provided, but on “Add action”, choose “Try adding your own” > Type: What’s on my calendar? > Save.

Another is the Family bell (this feature is only available on Assistant devices with US English set as the language). With this, you can schedule announcements to play on their Google Nest Mini devices. For example, if you want your youngest’s Google Nest Mini speaker to announce “Check your calendar” or “Eat your dinner”, you can add a bell announcement.

To add a bell announcement:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings > Google Assistant > Manage all Assistant settings > Family Bell.
  3. Tap + Add a bell and enter the announcement details.
  4. Tap Create new bell.
Note: When a bell is announced, a notification will appear on the mobile device.

Tip: At the bottom of the Family Bell screen, you can quickly add suggested bells to your  schedule like meal and break times.

Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Warmly,
Alex

So we have tried the family bells.  They seem to ignore them.  I will try the "What's on my calendar" route and see how that goes.
