Remove iHeartRadio or use other subscriptions first

We like to ask Google to play songs. After recent updates it keeps defaulting to iHeartRadio, and then can’t play the songs. I think it happened before the Gemini update, but it’s definitely happening with the Gemini update. I subscribe to YouTube Music and Apple Music. Both are linked and set higher in priority than iHeartRadio. I don’t use or want iHeartRadio, but it’s there and I can’t remove it. Sometimes we’ll say “ok Google, play specific song”. It’ll come back and say, I can’t play that on iHeartRadio and then that’s it. Then if I say “ok Google, play specific song on iTunes music“ it’ll play just fine. I don’t think I can remove iHeartRadio based on what I see in the menus, but I don’t like it, don’t want it, and I can’t get Google to stop trying there first and stopping. Anyone else having this issue and found a way around it?

Hi jfields026,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I see you’re having trouble playing your music service you subscribed to. When you say the voice command to your Nest display, it always plays iHeartRadio instead of YouTube Music, Apple Music or iTunes. I understand that this situation happens after the Gemini update. You mentioned that sometimes when you say the command “OK Google, play a specific song”, it responds with, “I can’t play that on iHeartRadio”. I can imagine how frustrating this must be because you're unable to remove the service in the app. I’m here to help.
Follow these recommendations to unlink the services from the Google Home app. Here are the steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap your account profile icon.
  3. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Nest display.
  4. Tap Settings option from your device’s tile.
  5. Under the Services section, tap Radio.
  6. You’ll see your linked music services there.
  7. Choose the radio service, then tap OK.
  8. To unlink the iHeartRadio account, tap on it, then tap Unlink(or Remove Service). and then confirm by tapping the Unlink account.

Additionally, ensure that any member has access to your account or has specifically added the iHeartRadio service to your Nest display.
Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Byron

Hi Byron, thanks for writing.

I only have SiriusXM under Radio. See screenshots of Radio and Music options.

Hi jfields026,

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate all the information and pictures provided. Let's explore additional options.

   Additional Recommendations:

  • Refresh the app: Please link the iHeartRadio app to your music services and then immediately unlink it. This action is intended to refresh the connection.
  • Reinstall the app: If the step above doesn't resolve the situation, please try to delete the Google Home app and then reinstall it.

Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Byron

I can't link iHeartRadio. There isn't an option to link any radio services. I don't see an option to link anything, only unlink SiriusXM. I don't have an iHeartRadio account to link either. It shows up in the Music section, but I can't add or remove it. Images above show that. Uninstall/reinstall of the Google Home app did nothing in the settings/options.
