Routines don’t run anymore from Nest Hub

terracqueo

A few days ago my Nest Hub began to have a very curious and annoying issues. It simply refuses to start any routine, nevertheless I still can if I trigger them from any other google nest in my house or through the app.
The reason is that “language is not supported”, which is even mor curious, given that I used them FOR YEARS before this particular issued occurred.

It also happened to reply, if asked for the weather, giving me the temperature in Fahrenheit instead of Celsius. But this different issue somehow doesn’t occur now.

Can someone help me? Not being able to trigger any routine from my bedside Nest Hub is very annoying.

Hi terracqueo,

This is not the experience we want you to have; let me help you. A few questions: which Nest speakers are we working with? Is it a Nest Hub or Nest Hub (2nd Gen)? Were there any recent changes made? What country are you located and what’s the language set on your phone and Google Home app?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Once done, check if the routine is under Personal or Household Routine:

  • Open the Home app tap Automations check which section (Household Routines or Personal Routines) the Routine is listed under.

Also, go to the Routine editor and verify that the Activate Routine toggle is in the on position.

Furthermore, Downtime or Filter settings might impact Routines. Refer to [How to] Set up Digital wellbeing for details.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan and thank you for your kind reply.
it is nest hub 2

i am located in Italy and use google assistant in Italian. Actually, I’ve been using NH2 in Italy and in Italian for a few years, now and never had a problem.
I use both google assistant and google home on my iPhone 12 pro in Italian.
I followed your steps but the issue is still there.
the routine is listed under Personal routines.
the curious thing is that this issue occurs ONLY on this NH2, not on any other device I have in my house. I can start that routine on my iPhone or on a different nest device.
in addition, I set up a routine that starts anytime I put off an alarm in the morning (tell me the time and weather; play a radio station; open the shades). It used to work but now it  doesn’t.
NH2 says in Italian that «Your language doesn’t support routines. Change your language to one that does» (roughly translated from Italian).

thanks again

Hello terracqueo,

Thanks for the information. Let’s try to factory reset and set up your Google Nest Hub 2nd gen. Then, monitor if routines will start working again.

Regards,
Alex

I just did that and no, routines are not working.
I also tried to set a new routine up, but again, it won’t work.
what’s odd is that now NB2 sometimes replies in Spanish? I have everything set up in Italian

how can I solve this problem?

Hi, and thanks for you kind reply.

It seems  that the issue is now solved. I reset the NB2 to factory settings, then I changed google assistant's language to English (which is not my native language) and then I switched it back again to italian and now, somehow, it seems to be working.
