Same home name but different countries ???

Hello All

I need a bit of help and advice before I commit to paying for new hardware please 🙂

I currently have 2 bedrooms, each room has a google mini / nest speaker and a TV with a chromecast. I can cast from my phone to both chromecast's and use voice commands in both rooms. I can also send broadcast messages and calls ect. All devices are on the same WiFi network and everything works as it should.

My question is this.... If I purchase another nest speaker and join it to my homegroup as if I was setting up a third room but then instead of using it at home I send it to my mother. My mother lives in France and I live in the UK. My father recently passed away and I have been spending many hours on the phone with my mum as obviously she is feeling very lonely.

If my mum sets up the speaker on her French Wi-Fi can I still use it as if it was at my home or am I going to be restricted to just calling using Duo ?

If anyone has attempted this setup with multiple speakers in different homes / WiFi  ect I would really appreciate any information that you have, restrictions that would apply and if it would even work.

I will be very grateful for any info or experiences and advice that anyone has that may help before I purchase a nest speaker and ship it to my mum.

Many thanks for your time and attention in reading this post.

All the Google Nest devices in a Google Nest "home" need to be on the same Wi-Fi network; that's a Google Nest requirement. If you purchase another Nest speaker and set it up in a third room in your Google Nest "home", it will be set up with the network name (SSID) and password of your Wi-Fi network at your house, and will therefore not work if you send it to your mother. It would have to be removed from your account, and factory reset, and then added to your mother's home on her Wi-Fi.

Thanks very mutch for that info. I assume I could still use Duo for a voice coil. It sounds like the only way for it to behave as local is to have the same WiFi settings at the remote site and link the two locations over a VPN though I assume the IP range would have to match to.

This is sounding like a lot of tweaking and work just to make a VOIP call. I know a Chromecast would be a total nightmare given that a French TV will be on a different PAL system to.

This is sounding like a big can of worms !!!

Thanks for your reply  👍

I've never used Google Duo much. Here's Google Nest's help page:
