Second Gen Hub stuck in dim mode since Fuschia

Since the Fuschia update my display fails to respond to ambient light correctly. It stays dim all of the time regardless of how bright the room is. Even with a bright flashlight pointed at it it stays dim. Sometimes a factory rest will correct the issue but eventually it gets stuck again.

I’ve set the display the same as my 1st Gen. units which respond correctly and it makes no difference. This photo shows the issue with the lamp set to 100% brightness.

It was working fine until the update. I’ve seen other threads describe the same issue but there hasn’t been a fix yet that I’ve seen. People just give up after several rounds of debug attempts.

Hi GeorgeS1384,

I know how it feels when something isn’t working the way it should. Let’s further look into it. Try to clean the light sensor using a light cloth (example: tissue, paper towel, etc.), and then:

  1. Open the Google Home App.
  2. Devices > Select your Google Nest Hub 2nd gen.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings > Display.
  4. Locate the Auto-brightness offset slider.
    1. Increase brightness, move the slider to the right (Brighter).

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Alex

I’d already tried those items. The only way to correct the issue is a factory reset which means I have to set up alarms, etc all over.

A regular reboot doesn’t work as the device returns to the same super-dim display during the boot process regardless of the light level (I’ve even tried shining a flashlight on the sensor during a reboot).

The device was fine until Fuschia was pushed to it.

Hi Razapaz,

Thanks for bringing this up. Could you please try these steps:

  1. Check the Settings on the display screen if Ambient mode is enabled; sun icon must have "A" in the middle
  2. Check if you can manually adjust the brightness
  3. Enable the Ambient mode again

Let me know if these steps work.

Best,

Princess

Hi Princess,

Thank you for your reply.

I have tried to disable the ambient and set minimum brightness to brightest, but it doesn't do a difference
