While setting up a new Nest Hub Max I’m unable to select region and cannot progress the setup. I’ve already factory reset but same issue. Also, whichever region I select same issue.  Can somebody kindly help?

Hi Bill17,

This is not the experience we wanted you to have, let me help you. A few things: when did your issue begin? Is this the first time setting up your Nest Hub Max? What country are you located in? When you did the factory reset, was it the same steps as what you see in this link? What is the error message during setup?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Once done, you can try these steps:

  1. Plug in your speaker or display. If the device has been used before, factory reset your speaker or display before you continue.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Tap the Add icon > Set up device > New device > follow the in-app steps.
    • If the Set up devices button is not on the screen:
      • To set up your first device in the Home app, tap Get started > Set up new devices > Create another home > Next > enter a home nickname and address.
      • To set up all other devices, at the top left, tap the Add icon > Set up device > New device.
      • Follow the remaining steps.
  4. You’ll be able to opt out of some settings, like Voice match or Personal results. You can change these settings at any time after you complete the setup.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Dan

Followed every step you said and reconfigured with multiple times, but still doesn’t work. It can’t proceed to the next for whatever region I choose.

Hey Bill17,

Sweet! We're happy to hear that you were able to set up your Nest Hub Max now! Could you share the steps that help you fix the issue.

@spenzhu: Could you tell us what country you are located in?

I’m living in China mainland, but all my 3 google home speakers have been working well since the last few years, until I need to reset 1 of them and found that problem in this month, while the other 2 are still in good use.How could is that be?

Hi spenzhu,

Just an added question: what is the make and model of your phone? Also, have you tried using a different phone/tablet for set up?

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi spenzhu,

To eliminate network issues, please try setting up your device using a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Home/Nest devices). Once done, check if your device will have the same behavior.

If the set up is successful, leave it connected to hotspot for as long as you can for the update to finish. When successful, move it to your Wi-Fi connection, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right corner, tap Settings > Device information.
  4. Next to "Wi-Fi," tap Forget. You’ll be taken back to the Home app home screen.
  5. Follow the setup steps to set up your device on the new Wi-Fi network.

If you get an error message that says "could not communicate with your [device]" when you try to forget your network, or the steps above don't work, you'll need to factory reset your device and set it up again.

Cheers,

Dan

Hi Dan, thanks for the message.  The device is brand new first time install.  My app would not go beyond region. Screen froze. Today I have tried again and no probs. Installed ok. Very strange.

However, thanks for reaching up it. Much appreciated.
