Set timer on my phone with Google assistant, timer alarm plays on Google home and phone

Whenever I use ok Google to set a timer on my phone it plays the alarm on my phone and on my Google home.  I've tried setting the alarm using voice controls in my basement where the Google home can't hear me and the same problem occurs.  Is there a way to stop the alarm from sounding on both devices.  I don't want to have to turn the alarm off twice, or have it blaring upstairs while on the Google home when I set it on my phone downstairs.

Are you sure the mini cannot hear you?
I am sitting in the living room with a mini right behind me. I have one in the kitchen, several feet away and the living room door is shut. Often I will give a command to the LR mini and the kitchen one responds. That is despite setting it's sensitivity to the lowest setting available. 🙂

Did you read my post.  I went to an entirely different floor of my house. If it can hear me that far away I have serious privacy concerns.

Also upon further testing, if I hold down the home button on my phone to activate the assistant and ask for a timer it doesn't go off on my Google home. But if I use ok Google voice command to activate the assistant then it does sound on both devices. Even when I'm far enough away it shouldn't hear me

Yes, and I am saying some appear to be much more sensitive than others.

I have one on my landing and one in the bedroom next to my bed, the other side of the bed from the landing. Sometimes when I ask the bedroom mini to do something, the landing one answers? 😞

Hi folks,

@Gasman, thanks for the help.

@Kleanemup, apologies for the inconvenience. We're here to help. A few questions: how long have you been experiencing this kind of concern? Are both your devices on the same Wi-Fi network? What's the make and model of your phone?

Could you set an alarm on your Google Home device and observe if it also goes off on your phone. It would also help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Tell us how it goes.

Best,

Dan
