Nest Hub Timer

Il timer non funziona più. Chiedo di inserire un timer ma continuamente mi risponde “per quanto tempo” e alla mia risposta continua imperterrito a chiedere.

Hi there,

Thank you very much for confirming that it works with this command in English. This time, however, I'd like the same command, "Hey Google, set a timer for 10 minutes," to be used in Italian to confirm if the Nest Hub and Nest Mini recognize it.

Keep me in the loop.

Best regards,
Eduardo

Hi, i forgot to say that all my tests were done using Italian.

"Hey Google, imposta timer di 10 minuti" works,
while the good old
"Hey Google, timer 10 minuti" does not work any more (regression).

Stesso problema!

Hi there,

Thank you so much for being part of this community! I understand you're experiencing issues with the timer on your Nest Hub and Nest Mini. I appreciate that you've already tried some troubleshooting, and I'm here to help.

To give you the best possible assistance, I need to ask you a few questions:

  • What are the devices affected?
  • What is the Firmware (Cast/Fuchsia) version of the device?
  • When did the issue start?
  • What is their specific command when setting up a timer?

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,
Eduardo

Same as @Josephcent for me. Same FW. Language set is italian

Hi Eduardo.
The devices affected are ALL the vocal assistants with the italian commands. Tested both on Nest Hub and Nest Mini.
The firmware on the Nest Hub is 26.20250116.103.2900
The firmware on the Nest Mini is 468348
The issue started more than a month ago
The command is "Imposta un timer di XX minuti". It answers keeping asking "Ok, per quanto tempo?" ("Ok, how long?")

Please fix this nightmare.

Ok, Nest Hub 2 gen.

The issue starts 2 weeks ago.

The firmware (Fuchsia) is 26.20250116.103.2900

I ask for a timer of ten minutes and it answers "for what time". Then i repeat "ten minutes" and it answers "for what time". And it goes like this. It never sets the timer.

Same behaviour (forever asking "for what time" and ignoring my answer).

It happens since 10 days ago.

Italian, Nest Mini, i don't know how to check for firmware version.

this only happens if the conversation starts in Italian: example

Hey google "metti" un timer di dieci minuti
google answers: per quanto tempo? (and repeats it endlessly)

if the conversation starts in English but continues in Italian for example: hey google set timer di dieci minuti.

then it works.

I think the problem is related to the keyword that triggers the routine

Hi there,

Thank you all for keeping me updated on what's happened! To continue with the troubleshooting steps, I'd like to share the following with you:

  • Reboot the Google Home
    • From Google Home app: Make sure the phone and the device ir connected to the same Wi-Fi > Open Google Home app > Select the speaker or display > Settings > At the top right, tap More > Reboot.
    • Unplug the speaker or display: Unplug the power cord from speaker or display > Leave it unplugged for one minute > Plug the power cord back in.
  • Attempt to set a timer or alarm.
    • Timer: “Hey Google, set a timer for XX minute.” (Example: "Hey Google, set a timer for one minute.")

    • Alarm: “Hey Google, set an alarm for XX.” (Example: "Hey Google, set an alarm for 3 P.M.")

  • Confirm if the Google Home recognized the question or the command correctly.
    • To test this, ask Google Home a question, then say, 'Hey Google, repeat the question.'
    • Confirm if the question repeated back to you is the same or not.

Keep me in the loop, and I can assist you with next steps.

Best regards,
Eduardo

Hi Eduardo,

I followed your procedure but nothing changed. The device under stand the command if i speak in english, but if i speak in italian it understands that it has to setup a timer but it doesn't understand the duration. I was able to setup a timer of 2 mins (in italian) but then i tried to change the timer and It didn't understand. This to Say that randomly but rarely It works, but it's a Nightmare to delete a single timer.

Hello.

I did the device reset as suggested.

The issue is still happening, when i say "hey google, timer 10 minutes".

But i did some more testing: it is working when i say "hey google, SET a timer of 10 minutes".

This seems like a regression, because i used the shorter formula for some years, but it is acceptable to me.

Hi there,

Thanks for keeping me updated on this situation, and I appreciate the time you've all taken to go through the troubleshooting steps. I'd like you to try the following command: "Hey Google, set a timer for 10 minutes," and then share the results of that test with me.

Keep me in the loop.

Best regards,
Eduardo

Same as @raffaelebianco , also "hey google metti un timer di 10 minuti" doesn't work

I can't set a simple timer anymore, I keep getting the response "ok, how long?" over and over.
I found out though that if I respond in another language and then back to my own, the assistant understands and sets the timer but it's become a nightmare.
Any advice?

"Hey Google, 20 minute timer"...?

exactly, that's what i did until a few days ago, now i keep getting the answer "ok, how long?" and even if i tell him 5 minutes he keeps asking me "ok, how long?"

You could try turning off the speaker for a couple of minutes or rebooting it via the Google Home app.

already done, I also tried changing the assistant language and it seems to work in English, apparently the support guys are aware of the problem and are solving it, I have to wait...

Just say "imposta un timer di XX minuti"

By your name, I imagine you are Italian. We've got two nest hubs in our apartment defaulting to English - they set timers fine. My suocera, however, lives upstairs and hers is in Italian. This timer thing started a few days ago. I've factory reset all 3 and tried putting them in our home and hers as part of my troubleshooting. It is always the same, in Italian, the timer cannot be set and you end up in the Kafkaesque cycle. This is not the device as it happens with each of them. It is a problem with their Italian implementation.

Same problem for me, from couple a week if i speak Italian don't understand only English. I was thinking to change with Alexa due to this problem, but now i know that maybe is an regression. Have you an eta to fix?

Hello, for the past few weeks, when I try to set a timer using "OK Google, set a 5-minute timer," I get a response saying, "Alright, for how long?" If I reply with "5 minutes," I keep getting the same response: "For how long?"
I’ve tried restarting the device, but it seems the timer function no longer works!
I have 4 Google Nest devices in my home, and I’m no longer able to set a timer on any of them.
Thnk you for your support, Alessandro from Italy

Hi there,

Thank you for the update that the previously suggested troubleshooting steps haven't worked for everyone. Given this, if you've found another voice command that works, please use that as a workaround for now. The Engineering team is actively looking into and investigating the issue.

Keep me in the loop.

Best regards,
Eduardo

Thanks for your reply. At the moment, I'm using the voice command "OK Google, set an alarm for 5 minutes," but it's not a great solution—it’s just not the same as being able to set a proper 5-minute timer. I hope you’ll find a fix for this issue soon, especially since I bought my Google devices less than a year ago, and it's disappointing to see this kind of problem already.
Keep up the good work and have a great day.

Same problem in Dutch since a few weeks. This is really annoying! It keeps asking for how long, while you can see it perfectly understands "10 minutes" if you say it, but still keeps asking "for how long." You would expect with the whole transformation to Gemini it would get smarter, but it's the opposite.
