Some Tune In radio do not play anymore

pbenmoussa

Hello I have a Google Nest Audio..

Since, let's say 5 or 6 days, when I say (in French, as I based in France)  "OK Google, mets RTL" (="OK Google, play RTL" - RTL is a French News radio) or "OK Google, mets Europe 1" (="OK Google, play Europe 1" - Europe 1 is also a French News radio) then the Nest answers "Je lance RTL/Europe 1 depuis Tune-in" (="I launch RTL/Europe 1 from Tune-in"), then "Welcome to tune-in" and then silence... Nothing

On the other side when I say "OK Google, mets France-Inter" (="OK Google, play France-Inter" - France inter is the main French News radio but from Radio-France, the national radio broadcasting company), then the nest answers "Je lance France-Inter depuis Radio-France" (="I launch France-Inter from Radio-France"), and everything is fine.

Could you help (knowing that I use the Google Nest Audio, mainly to listen at radio...)

Cheers

My google nest audio won’t play any radio stations today! Was OK yesterday. Based in the uk. It just says “Sorry I didn’t understand”, after I ask it to play bbc radio 1, Kerrang radio, capital radio etc.

Frustrating as I listen to radio on it every day!!

Hi @pbenmoussa,

Thank you for posting in the community! I apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing with the radio stations in TuneIn. I'd be happy to help!

I appreciate all the information you've provided, @Fluffy-fluff. I'd like to know if you were able to play any other radio stations and what the music provider is that you're using.

For now, I'd suggest trying these steps:

  • Check for updates for the Google Nest Audio, TuneIn, and mobile software versions.
  • Check the TuneIn Service Status for RTL and Europe 1. There might be reported issues or outages.
  • Restart your Google Nest Audio. Unplug it, wait a few minutes, then plug it back in. For reference, you can check out this article: Reboot Google Nest or Home speaker or display.
  • Relink the TuneIn service in the Google Home app:
    • Tap on your Nest Audio.
    • Go to Settings > Services.
    • Unlink TuneIn and then relink it.
  • Ensure your Nest Audio is connected to a strong Wi-Fi network.
  • Try using a different voice command to play the station radio. You can check out this article: Listen to the radio on your Google Nest speaker or display.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hi Jennifer,

the point here is that in the Google Home app, there is no TuneIn service in the Services tab.

Also, evrything works perfectly fine on my other devices.

Regards.

Hi @pbenmoussa,

Thanks for following up! I understand how inconvenient it is when you can't link the TuneIn service.

I appreciate you sharing your feedback. This is valuable to us, and it helps us continue improving our products to meet your needs.

To help us understand the inconvenience better, please tell me the exact commands you use to play "Europe 1" and "RTL." Also, if you tried rebooting your Nest Audio?

Please keep me updated.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hi Jennifer,

I have already tried to reboot the Nest audio. I have also fully resetted it and reconfigured, but nothing...

Now here is what is happening (sorry in French):

1- I say "Hey/OK Google, mets Europe 1"

2- I get the answer from the Nest Audio "Je lance la lecture en streaming de Europe 1 depuis TuneIn"

3- I get the message with a male voice "Welcome to TuneIn"

and... that's all... no sound, nothing.

Thanks for the help.

Regards.

Yes, everything has been done to ty and rectify this. As an ex-IT Support Engineer I've tried to troubleshoot as best I can, obviously restarted the Google Nest device multiple times.

All I know is for years its worked fine, just asking "Hey Google, play BBC Radio 1", or the other radio stations. But now it just replies that its turned dumb and hasn't a clue what I'm asking!!

Now the only way I can play any Radio station is to start the app-relevant radio streaming app (ie BBC Sounds) on my phone, and start playing on there, then press the cast button and choose the Google Nest device.

If the issue is related to TuneIn, it isn't something I'm able to do as an end consumer/user, thats managed by whichever Google services operate within the UK I presume.

  • Relink the TuneIn service in the Google Home app:
    • Tap on your Nest Audio.
    • Go to Settings > Services.
    • Unlink TuneIn and then relink it.

As @pbenmoussa mentioned, this does not exist within the Google Home app on my iPhone, there isn't any reference to TuneIn anywhere! Google just used to know how to play the Radio station, I know TuneIn as a service has been limited in the past, it isn't something I can or modify myself.

Hi @Fluffy-fluff,

Thank you for your reply! I apologize for the misunderstanding regarding the TuneIn and BBC Radio 1. I understand how frustrating it can be to play audio from your phone but not through your Nest Audio.

I also appreciate your efforts trying to resolve this inconvenience. Let’s try the following:

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Within Google Home app; Services section, this is what is shown:

  • Works with Google
  • Video
  • Music
  • Podcast
  • Notes and lists
  • Partner connections

Radio is nowhere to be seen. I've looked through each section and nothing is relevant. Within Music I've only linked the free spotify service. The other options are:

  • Youtube Music
  • Apple Music
  • Deezer
  • No default

I'm not going to Reset my device, it's a pain to set back up and I suspect it isn't my device having the issue.

Hi @Fluffy-fluff,

Thank you for following up. I apologize for the incorrect information. The option to link radio services is currently only available in the US and Canada.

Since you're located in the UK and BBC radio plays as expected on your phone, we'll need to isolate the inconvenience with the commands and Google Assistant. To help us investigate further, please fill out this form with the required information. Once you've submitted the form, please let me know.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

My Nest Audio is back working this morning, asked it to Play BBC Radio 1 as normal and it responding correctly and started playing fine.

I did not make any changes myself, no additional reboots etc.

So, whatever Google did in the background yesterday/last night has got it working again, just a shame they broke it in the meantime for 5 days.
