I have two google max speakers, paired. At my prior house they were "Living Room Speakers" and in the area "Living room". All good.
I moved. I moved the pair to the Dining Room and that worked,.
But the name shows up as "Living room speakers". I can change it (Home app, device information, Name, edit and hit Save, but the name does not save. The screen it returns to still says Living Room Speakers (in the Dining Room).
I do not want to separate them and re-join because it seems that always has issues for people and other than the name, this is working fine.
Am I missing a step?

I should add to the above that I have had no trouble changing other (singular, non-paired) devices names. This is the only one that won't "stick".

Hi @Linwood,
You're right, there seems to be a glitch where the Google Home app isn't saving the new name for your speaker group. Here are a few things you can try to fix it:
Force Close and Reopen App: Sometimes a simple app refresh can do the trick. Close the Google Home app completely (swipe it away on Android or force quit on iPhone). Then, reopen the app and try renaming the speaker group again.
Restart Phone/Device: A device restart can clear temporary glitches that might be causing the issue. Restart your phone or tablet and then relaunch the Google Home app to see if the renaming works.
Change Assistant Language (Temporary Test): This might seem unusual, but sometimes changing the Assistant language and then switching it back can refresh the app's data. Important: Only do this as a test, and switch the language back to your preferred option after renaming. Here's how:
Unlink and Re-link Speakers (Last Resort): This should be a last resort as it involves unpairing your Nest Max speakers. However, it could potentially reset any naming issues. Here's how to do it:
By trying these steps, you should hopefully be able to rename your speaker group to "Dining Room Speakers" and have it stick
Best,
Brandon.

Thank you @pereztzum . None of that worked except the last resort.
I remembered I had two google home speakers (the mid-size things). They were also paired so I unpacked them and tried the rename and also failed. I split them and re-paired, all worked, so did the same with the Max speakers. Fortunately it worked, the limitations from the patent dispute must not be there now.
In experimenting (I did it a few time with the smaller ones), I think I understand in a way. When you have two speakers A and B and pair them and call it C, one of those (I think just one) becomes something of a master and retains its identity, so it's still (say) "B" as well as "C". I think the Android home program is actually affecting the "B" part not the "C" part, which of course does not work.
Anyway.. un-pair and pair worked. Google home app is broken for pair renaming I think.
Thanks.
