Speaker Group issue

Midnight_Voice
Community Member

On my Home screen on Google Home, it says my speaker group is playing, and it is,  but when I go into the group, it says it isn’t playing.

The group is made up of a Nest Hub Max I just bought, and a smaller Hub with a screen, though whether this is Nest or Home, and what generation, I don’t seem to be able to get Google Home or the device itself, either talking to it or looking at it, to tell me. (Anyone know how?)

How do I get the speaker group display to agree with reality?

Hey Midnight_Voice,

Thanks for sharing details about the issue here, and my apologies for the late response.

I understand how challenging it is when you're having issues playing music on speaker group with your Google Home and Nest devices. A few questions: when did the issue start? How often does it happen? Is it happening to all songs? How far are your speakers from your router? What is your default music service provider?

Let's try these steps below:

  1. Move your Google Home and Nest devices within 15-20 ft. away from the router to get enough signal from your network.
  2. Reboot your speakers and router by disconnecting them from the power source and leave them unplugged for 1 minute. Once done, plug them back one at a time with intervals.
  3. Unlink and re-link your music service (except for YouTube Music). Once done, check if your speaker will have the same behavior.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey Midnight_Voice,

I wanted to check in and see if you managed to see Muddi's post? Please let me know if you have any questions from here. I would be happy to assist, and ensure you are good to go.

Hi Jake

Sorry, I’ve been a bit busy lately 😢

Muddi answered a rather different question from the one I asked. If you reread my query, you will see that everything was working fine out in the physical real world - both speakers playing, in sync, just fine - but while the Home Screen agrees this is how things are, when I tap for the speaker group, the more detailed display there says the speakers aren’t playing.

But they are. So reality is fine, the Home Screen is fine, the Speaker screen is wrong.

Muddi very helpfully told me what to do if the speakers weren’t working, or weren’t syncing, but both those things were happening fine.

I just wondered how to get Google Home to be self-consistent about it.

I also asked how to get my Nest Hub to tell me if it was a Max or not, or to get Google Home to tell me, and this question was not addressed.

Hey Midnight_Voice,

That is a very odd situation. Do you mind me asking if you have tried to factory reset the device? This may help resolve the issue with your screen showing them not playing. Let me know if you have any questions from here, as I would be happy to review.

Best regards,

Jake

Hey Jake

No, I don’t mind in the least you asking me if I have factory reset the device,

But which device? The Nest Hub, the Nest Hub Max, or the iPad I see this anomaly on?

Any of these would, I think, involve a long slow restoration of functionality and settings once I had reset it especially the iPad - and I don’t want to do that.

I did restart all three devices, but nothing changed.

The next step, and a way of avoiding resetting the iPad would, I guess, be to use another tablet I have, or a laptop, and if the anomaly shows up there too, I guess that would exonerate my first iPad.

I will try to recreate the situation, and if I can, I will post some screenshots here, if that’s allowed.

NB: I still don’t know how to get my Nest Hubs to tell me if they are Max or not, within the Google Home app. I can’t think Google would have missed such an obvious thing, so I guess I just can’t find it; so if you could point me to it, that would be super-helpful.

Best Regards

Roy

Hi Midnight_Voice,

Sorry for the late response. I'd like to check if you still need help with this. Please let us know by responding to this thread.

On the other hand, Google Nest Hub Max devices is bigger that the Nest Hub and it has a built in camera on it.

Best,

Princess

Thanks Muddi

I did reply to the last message, but I have no idea where it went or if this will go anywhere.

To repeat:-

I can easily tell the devices apart by physical inspection(!), but I would like to tell the devices apart programmatically, e.g. when I am remote from them and configuring them on my iPad.

The two devices are grouped as Downstairs. When I ask for Classic FM on each device individually, there is no problem, except of course that they are slightly out of sync.

To avoid this, I should be able to ask for Classic FM on Downstairs, but when I do, both devices only play for a few seconds, before stopping, with no indication that anything has gone wrong,

I hope you get the message this time, or I’m going back to Alexa, even though she can’t tell me which piece of music is playing 😛
