Speaker volume low for assistant responses but fine for music/videos

DanPH77
Community Member

When I ask questions using "Hey Google" the replies I get are very low volume despite the volume being set at max 10 and pressing the volume up button on the device all the way. The music and videos play at VERY LOUD volume but I can barely hear the responses I get from the Google Assistant.

Hi DanPH77,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that the Google Assistant has low volume, but the music and videos are fine.

I'm happy to assist you! I recommend that you try rebooting your Google speaker or display. To do this, please visit Reboot Google Home. There you will find the correct steps.

Let me know if this helps!

Regards,

Manuel

I had performed this step a couple of times already and it didnt work. I tried it again and still nothing.

I want the Google Assistant volume to be louder but the device volume is already 100% max.

Hi DanPH77,

Thanks for letting me know. Please try the following steps to check the media settings of the Google Assistant:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites.
  3. Tap the current media session for:
    • Playback controls
    • Volume control (media and Google Assistant)
    • Playback device selection

There you can find controls for the volume of the Google Assistant.

Let me know if this helps.

Regards,

Manuel

Hi DanPH77,

Thanks for trying the steps.

I have a question: What model of Google speaker or display do you have? To check the other features for volume.

I will be awaiting your response.

Manuel

Google Hub Max latest version. Made in 2022 per the box. Bought in December straight from Google.

Hi DanPH77,

Thanks for continuing to respond. Please follow the next steps to check if this is causing the volume adaptive feature:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices.
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile Settings or More > menu Settings.
  4. Tap recognition and sharing > Send Nest Hub Max device usage data and crash reports to Google.
To enable adaptive volume, tap the toggle to the right to On.
To disable adaptive volume, tap the toggle to the left to Off.

Let me know if this helps!

Regards,

Manuel

Why would enabling share device usage data and crash reports have anything to do with that? The toggle on simple sends that data to Google and if toggle off it doesnt.

There is no setting that says adaptive volume listed under settings.

Hi DanPH77,

Thanks for trying. You don't need to activate "Send Nest Hub Max device usage data and crash reports to Google."

Following the steps in the last post, you will see the following options:

  • To enable adaptive volume, tap the toggle to the right.
  • To disable adaptive volume, tap the toggle to the left.

Check if the option is active. If it is, turn it off.

I will be awaiting your response.

Regards,

Manuel

I checked again. There is no "enable adaptive volume" setting under recognition and sharing.
