Spotify duo: Two separate accounts on two separate nest minis HELP

kilamodalo
Community Member

I have read so many threads about this and have seen very frustratingly generalised advice (that does not work!) how to solve the problem.

We have two nest minis, two google accounts and two spotify accounts.  I have linked them separately on two separate phones using all the correct details.  But when my daughter asks google to play music on her mini it cuts off my music and uses my spotify account.

I have deleted and re added; I have unlinked and linked; I have removed apps and reinstalled them, and the same thing happens.  I am so frustrated I could scream hahah.

How do we make this work, the reason I got my daughter her own spotify account is so that spotify stops recommending taylor swift on my account and now we are back to the same problem except I am paying for two accounts.

Hi kilamodalo,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

That certainly hasn’t been easy for you. Let’s check what’s going on. A few things: what is the age of your child? Are you managing your child's account via the Family link app? Does your child have her own phone?

Check this helpful link and let me know if you have questions.

Thanks,

Juni

Hi,

None of that answers my question. I don’t need help setting up Google assistant for my child, I need help setting up two minis, in one house with two separate spotify accounts. The owners of the two minis are irrelevant. Two minis, one home, two Google account and two spotify accounts.

Thank you!

Hi kilamodalo,

Thanks for the response. Adding two Spotify accounts in one Google account is not yet supported. If you wish to add another Spotify account you need to add another user to your Google Home app and they will need to set up their profile then link their own Spotify account. If your daughter is more than 13 years old you can add her to your Google Home app directly without managing it using the family link app as suggested in the earlier post.

Here is a helpful link on how to add a famly member.

Keep me posted.

Juni

Hi Juni,

Hi there,

We got your response, thanks. You have two options if your daughter is not more than 13 years old. You can add her in the Google Home app as a home member as instructed on the previous post or you can just set up one of your Nest MIni using her account. To do that you need to do a full reset on your Nest Mini that you will set up using her account, then set it up as a new device under her account.

Check these helpful links.

Factory reset your Nest Mini.

Set up your speaker.

Thanks,

Juni

Your suggested approach doesn't work! Did you really take in account that my kids have Family Link active? Did you take in account that in Sweden 13 is NOT an age prohibited for this kind of use? And did you take in account that Spotify Premium & Spotify Family mebers can be AND are allowed to be under 13?

Then assist!!  Do not avoid helping your customers!!!!!!!!!!

I have Spotify premium and several members, each one with separate accounts. Same goes with google accounts! The younglings are added to Family Link but can’t link their own Spotify accounts… Shame!

Please, I tend to believe this is an automated bot that doesn't read the actual information provided!

If you actually read the full contents you'd understand the pickle...

Separate devices, Google accounts AND separate Spotify accounts (linked as Spotify Family)

The configuration NOT working is the lineup Google Home + Google Assistant + Google Family Link + Spotify.

One CAN'T link the separate Spotify accounts to a childs device with Google Assistant/Google Home/Google Family Link no matter what settings and setup... Your apps only states that the child is under 13 and hence there is no way, even if they are legally accepted to use Spotify as family member.

Have the same issue -ish!

Have a Nest Hub (2nd gen) and two minis. Have a primary/parental account.

Two kids 8 & 10, in Family Link, Assistent enabled, voice matched, and all possible annoying setting to get them so called isolated account & unit vise (not truly isolated though).

Can’t link Spotify to my kids Family Link/Assistent/Home app or any other way. Still says they are to young… Nonsense!!! According to Swedish law the ages are not a problem, the problem lies within Google’s applications and restrictions.

I do not want a tug war between my kids/units/rooms and this must be solvable and not such a hard puzzle!!!

I myself have been working with all possible IT-systems in over 24 years , including development and I can’t for my life see why this problem even exist!

While researching this problem I’ve read so many forums & threads explaining the same problem for years… What stuns me is that You (Google) haven’t found a solution for your customers yet!!!!

Please show the world you’re smart and capable solving such a small IT-problem!!

Thank you Mallstadius!

The help from both Juni and Princess has been no help at all.  No matter how many times I explain the situation they are replying with the same unhelpful answers, like they don’t even read the actual message.

I have made it quite clear that we have two separate google accounts and two separate Spotify accounts and two separate google minis and I keep getting help in setting them up instead of help with the actual problem.

My daughter is 7 and it’s my decision whether to give her access to Spotify or google as far as I am concerned.

I have now tried to set us both up in separate homes which works on the Spotify front but now we can’t communicate between the minis and whenever we speak to one mini they both respond and it is so annoying.

I give up to be honest, crying inside haha
