I recently stumbled on a bug that involves speaker groupes. The cause seem pretty straightforward.
you play music on spotify, select living room speaker. Music plays, all good.
now switch sound to a speaker group CONTAINING livingroom speaker. And now the app hangs on source selection, cannot connect.
i just select sound on my phone, music plays on phone, then reselect the group and it works.
bottom line is. When a speaker is in use, it prevents the switch to a group containing said speaker. I suppose that this speaker being in use, it kind of f up the group which might not have access to it because of this.
Spotify or google side ? You will tell me i suppose 🙂

Hi stan69b,
Thanks for posting.
If I’m getting this right, the switch happens when your living room speaker is still playing, right? And while that said speaker is playing, when you ask Google Home to play music on the speaker group, it stops? By the way, what Google Home/Nest speakers are linked to your speaker group?
Have you already tried deleting the speaker group and recreating a new one? You might also want to change the name of the speaker that’s linked to your speaker group. It helped in many cases like this. Otherwise, click this link Create and manage speaker groups to further the information and troubleshooting.
Keep me posted.
Best,
Dan

Hi,
The music is playing on my speaker A, I go to spotify, change source to speaker groupe that contains speaker A. Music stops and never transfers to the speaker group selected (infinite connecting…).
all my speakers are google nest mini v2. Groupes only contain google nest v2 speakers.
I already tried recreating the groupes but it does not change anything. It has the same result for every groupes. The common thing that happens when it fails is that the current playing speaker is also in the groupe i juste selected.

Hi stan69b,
I really appreciate your efforts.
Try these steps:
If it persists, let's factory reset your Google Nest Mini's to its default and original settings. Setting them back up is a must. Click this link Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays.
Tell me how it goes
Thanks,
Dan

Hi, I’ve already tried resets and I do not really wish to do it on all 5 devices again and reconnect it all to my in house domotique. But I did do some further testing.
You talked about asking Google assistant to transfer the music on a speaker or a groupe. So I tried and it does work, no issues whatsoever, even in my specific case of transferring to a group containing the currently playing speaker. I’m starting to believe that the integration of Google home speakers in Spotify might be the issue ? Is there any way someone could try to reproduce this bug with the Spotify app on iOS ?
anyway, as it is working when asking Google home, I suppose there are no issues on your side. Or at least non that would be fixed with a factory reset ou any manipulation on my side. I will try to contact Spotify but I strongly believe they will send me to you 😂.
I’ll try some further testing with android devices and maybe other compatible apps/players. I will update this thread if I see a pattern.
anyway, thank you for your time and patience.

Hey stan69b,
I really appreciate your knowledge and effort. Everything’s noted. I just wish that there is a way for us to reproduce this concern using the Spotify app on iOS but these are the kind of things that only they can do.
I’ll be waiting for your response and rest assured that we’re really looking into this and doing tests to narrow things down.
Keep it up.
Regards,
Dan
