Spotify kids issues

Community Member

Got a couple of mini nests to support music in multiple rooms simultaneously for children under 10.

Subscribed to Spotify family account.

However it appears, is that I cannot link individual spotify accounts created for the kids under children accounts within google to the various voice matching.

With the family link app, there isn't an option to link a different account to that children's profile. So all of devices can only link to one Spotify account.

The functionality I'm trying to achieve is the my spotify account on the hub, and the kids spotify accounts on their individual nest minis, all playing different music at the same time. I also want all the parental controls.

The only workaround I can find is to create individual 'adult' accounts for each child, and assign them as 'adult' family members which means I lose all of the parental controls for the assistant.

Did I miss something, this seems like a big gap for keeping children safe

I have been searching high and low and thus far have found no work-around for this issue. My IT husband and Googler Brother In Law can't seem to fix it either.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out and for providing detailed information on your issue and the steps that you've done — these are of great help!

Did you allow the Spotify app on your child's account? You can check that by following the steps below.

Important: Always allowed apps are only supported for children signed-in on Android 7+ devices except those running Google Kids Space. Check which version of Android your child uses.

  1. Open the Family Link app Family Link.
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap Controls and then App limits.
  4. Select your desired app.
  5. Tap Always allow always allow and then Done.

  • Always allowed apps don't count toward your child’s screen time limits and aren't available when your child is in downtime.
  • If you tap "Lock," Always allowed apps aren't available, unless you change this setting from the device lock screen.
    1. Select Devices and then the device you want to update.
    2. Tap Lock screen settings and then Always allowed app

Hope this helps.
